3Q25: Weak, as expected, from ECL
Pretty much in line with expectations, 3Q25 results reflected a normalization of cash collection from the exceptionally high base in 2Q25 with a rise YoY. The bottom line was also dragged by ECL for the acquisition of NPAs. We expect 4Q25F earnings to rise QoQ in 4Q25 from a seasonal rise in cash collection. We maintain Outperform with an unchanged TP of Bt8 (based on DDM) on the back of: 1) good dividend yield of 7.3% and 2) upside from more JVAMC and Ari-AMC (its JVAMC with GSB) purchases of retail NPLs as a debt relief measure.
3Q25: Pretty weak, as expected. 3Q25 earnings sank 86% QoQ (off an exceptionally high base) and 8% YoY to Bt184mn. Considering the volatile nature of earnings, we deem that this was pretty much in line with the INVX forecast of Bt203mn and consensus forecast of Bt232mn. We view that its actual operational performance should be assessed by cash collection rather than earnings, which are distorted by accounting treatment. Highlights are summarized below.
1) Total cash collection rose 7% YoY but fell 48% QoQ (from an exceptionally high base) to Bt3.5bn in 3Q25. Cash collection from NPLs rose 10% YoY but fell 44% QoQ from the 2Q25 high base, which had cash collection from one large NPL. Cash collection from NPAs rose 2% QoQ but fell 53% YoY off the 2Q25 high base which had cash collection from one large NPA.
2) Interest income fell 7% YoY and 4% QoQ in 3Q25. Within this, the cash portion rose 26% YoY but fell 41% QoQ. Gain on NPLs rose 43% YoY and 151% QoQ. Gross margin on NPL cash collection rose 8.66 ppt YoY and 28.71 ppt to 36.88%.
3) Gain on NPAs fell 21% YoY and 84% QoQ in 3Q25. Gross margin from NPA cash collection fell 13.39 ppt YoY and 43.44 ppt QoQ to 26.28%.
4) Credit cost (excluding accrued interest) rose 53 bps YoY but slipped 4 bps QoQ to 0.75% in 2Q25, which mainly arose from its purchase of collateral from the Legal Execution Department or collateral transfer in satisfaction of debt by debtors, changing from collateral underlying NPLs to NPAs, against which the full amount of remaining cost must be reserved.
5) Cost of funds ease 6 bps QoQ to 3.6% in 3Q25.
Expect 4Q25F earnings to swing up and achieve cash collection target. We expect 4Q25F earnings to swing up QoQ in 4Q25 from a seasonal rise in cash collection. We expect BAM to achieve its target to boost cash collection by 17% to Bt17.8bn in 2025, the highest since 2020. We expect cash collection to rise 12% QoQ (-5% YoY) on seasonality to ~Bt4bn in 4Q25 on collections from large NPLs and NPAs (Bt50mn each).
Maintain Outperform with an unchanged TP. We maintain Outperform with an unchanged TP of Bt8 (based on DDM) on the back of 1) good dividend yield of 7.3% and 2) upside from more JVAMC and Ari-AMC (its JVAMC with GSB) purchases of retail NPLs as a government measure to resolve household debt.
Key risks: 1) Cash collection risk from an economic slowdown, 2) a slowdown in property market demand and 3) rising competition from new players.
