3Q25: Slight miss on lower ASP
3Q25 net profit was Bt12.7bn (-28.9% YoY, -6.1% QoQ), below estimates on lower ASP and higher unit cost than expected. Core profit was Bt12.1bn, falling 33% YoY and 13% QoQ due to lower ASP and THB appreciation, partly offset by higher sales volume (+7.5% YoY, +1.1% QoQ). 9M25 profit was Bt42.8bn (70% of full-year forecast), down 29.3% YoY due to lower ASP and THB appreciation. Nonetheless, we expect our 2025 earnings projection will be achievable on sales volume growth in 4Q25 and stable gas prices at US$5.7/mmbtu. We maintain OUTPERFORM with DCF-based TP of Bt147 based on LT Brent oil price of US$64.
Higher sales volume on new assets and less maintenance. 3Q25 sales volume was 510kBOED, rising 7.5% YoY and 1.1% QoQ, slightly better than expected. This was due to the newly acquired 50% stake in MTJDA Block A-18 in the Gulf of Thailand and fewer maintenance shutdowns. At the same time, lower gas nominations from PTT’s gas separation plants (GSPs) weighed on existing field output as their planned shutdowns were longer than expected. With less oil loading from projects in Algeria and the Middle East, sales of liquid product fell 10.8% QoQ and accounted for 26%, down from 29% in 2Q25.
Lower oil portion hit ASP in 3Q25. ASP fell 8.3% YoY and 1.9% QoQ to a four-year low of US$43.17/BOE on lower liquid mix, despite higher oil price. Gas prices remain stable at US$5.8/mmbtu, but unit cost edged up 1.4% QoQ to US$31.52/BOE on higher G&A and exploration expenses caused by consulting fees related to asset acquisitions and a seismic study. EBITDA margin remains solid at 70%, consistent with long-term targets.
4Q25F guidance. Management targets a rise in 2025 sales volume to 510-515kBOED, including the new asset (50% interest in MTJDA Block A-18) from 489kBOED in 2024. This implies strong sales volume growth of 6-10% QoQ in 4Q25 to 540-560kBOED, which should be achievable on a full-quarter contribution from Block A-18 (17kBOED) and more oil loading of projects in the Middle East and Africa. ASP remains the key risk amid weak oil prices, while gas prices are expected to hold at ~US$5.7±/mmbtu, a slight decline after the latest gas price adjustment in Oct 2025. This should have minimal impact on the full-year average of US$5.8/mmbtu. Unit cost is also expected to ease QoQ due to volume impact and absence of non-recurring expenses like consulting fees for acquisitions.
TP maintained at Bt147. With 9M25 cumulative net profit at 70% of our full-year forecast, we leave our 2025F unchanged. We also keep TP (mid-2026) at Bt147, implying PBV (2026) of 1x. We stay OUTPERFORM on the tempting discount to DCF valuation and healthy balance sheet with net D/E of only 0.1x. (See Figure 6: for sensitivity of TP and earnings to oil price.)
Risk factors: 1) Volatile crude oil price, 2) higher unit cost, 3) asset impairment and 4) regulatory changes on GHG emissions. Key ESG risk factors are the environmental impact of its business and adapting to transition to clean energy.
