KCE reported 2Q25 net profit of Bt182mn, missing consensus by 21%. Net profit sank 71% YoY and 21% QoQ due to a 12% YoY plunge in sales, as well as a plunge in gross margin to 18.1% in 2Q25 from price cuts, lower sales volume and baht appreciation. 3Q25 is expected to recover without the one-time expenses seen in 2Q25 plus higher revenue and gross margin, but 4Q25 remains uncertain in view of Trump’s tariffs. We cut our 2025F core profit by 32% and 2026F by 19%. We maintain our Neutral with a new 2026 target price of Bt30.0 (from Bt20.0), based on 18x PE of its 5-year PE mean.
Weak sales and gross margin lead to weak results. KCE reported a net profit of Bt182mn in 2Q25, 21% below consensus estimates. Net profit sank 71% YoY and 21% QoQ on a 21% YoY and 2.4% QoQ drop in total revenue brought by a 12.1% YoY and 3.4% QoQ fall in demand for PCB products. This led utilization rate to drop to 66% from 73% in 2Q24. Revenue was also impacted by a 4% price reduction requested by customers and the strengthening of the Thai baht. Gross margin narrowed to 18.1% in 2Q25 from 24.8% in 2Q24 from price cuts, lower sales volume and the stronger baht. However, margin did improve slightly QoQ due to the company's ongoing cost reduction efforts.
Interim DPS of Bt0.6 on 1H25 represents a 200% dividend payout ratio or a 4.7% annualized dividend yield. XD is August 26.
2025 outlook. KCE's management anticipates a QoQ recovery in revenue and gross margin in 3Q25 (though still expects a YoY fall). This is based on US$1mn orders that were rescheduled to July 2025 and a US$5mn backlog. It projects a recovery in gross margin to 20% in 3Q25, helped by the absence of 2Q25’s Bt24mn one-time inventory write-off and Bt10.7mn one-time legal fees. In 4Q25, it is taking a cautious "wait-and-see" approach due to market uncertainties. For the full year 2025, KCE’s initial revenue forecast is for a decline of ~2% YoY (a revision from the previous expectation of flat growth). However, gross margin is still expected to be in the low 20% range, as in the original forecast.
US tariffs. US sales account for 15% of KCE's revenue. Management expects no direct impact from US tariffs, as terms and conditions stipulate that customers are responsible for all tariff costs. As the tariffs will push up prices of end-products like cars across all brands in the US, the company is monitoring consumer demand to see if it can absorb the higher prices. Although 70% of KCE's products are used in the automotive industry, it says its products are classified as general electronics, which are subject to Thailand’s 19% US tariff, not the 25% tariff levied on automotive products. The company is also watching for any impact on sales in Mexico (for products destined for the US) and Europe (for indirect impact on European customers who export to the US).
Cut 2025-2026 forecasts. We have cut our 2025F by 32% and 2026F by 19% to reflect the lower sales (from flat YoY to -6% YoY) and gross margin assumptions. We now expect gross margin to fall to 18.5% in 2025 from 21.3% earlier and to 20% in 2026 from 22.0% previously.
Key risks are changes in purchasing power, a weaker-than-expected automotive industry, higher raw material costs (copper and epoxy resins) and exchange rate volatility. Key ESG focus areas are labor management and suppliers.
