2Q26: Solid, beat on investment income
Beating expectations on investment income, THRE’s 2Q26 results were solid with an improvement in both insurance and investment results. We maintain our OUTPERFORM with a hike in TP to Bt0.5 from Bt0.43 on a roll over to mid-2027, underpinned by an expectation of strong earnings recovery, an attractive 8.8% dividend yield and undemanding at 0.45x PBV and 7.1x PE for 2026.
2Q26: Beat on investment income. THRE’s net profit rose 20% YoY but fell 15% QoQ (absence of extra income) to Bt91mn in 2Q26, 10% above forecast on investment income. Its core earnings rose 20% YoY and 115% QoQ. Highlights are summarized below.
- Insurance service profits rose 14% YoY and 25% QoQ in 2Q26. Insurance revenue fell 9% YoY (due to the reduction in health insurance business which related to high loss ratio from medical inflation) but rose 14% QoQ. Gross written premiums decreased 5% YoY (in line with intentions to reduce its health insurance exposure to cope with rising medical inflation) but rose 8% QoQ which implies a QoQ rise in insurance revenue in 3Q26. Combined ratio decreased 280 bps YoY and 115 bps QoQ to 86.1%.
- Net investment profits rose 80% YoY and 63% YoY in 2Q26. Net investment income rose 4% YoY and 340% QoQ because of higher dividend income from its strategy to adjust its investment portfolio by increasing investment in equities to generate more dividend income to balance the interest income declining trend since last year. In addition, there were unrealized mark-to-market positive impacts from foreign exchange fluctuations. It booked gain on investment of Bt7mn in 2Q26 vs. Bt24mn in 1Q26 and Bt17mn loss in 2Q25.
- Opex rose 69% YoY (due to ordinary reserve for employee benefits which was set aside this year but not for the last year after the catastrophe events impacted last year performance mainly due to reserve for employee benefits) but decreased 18% QoQ on seasonality.
Raised 2026F earnings outlook. We raised 2026F earnings by 5% to fine tune with the results. We now forecast a turnaround to profit of Bt318mn (Bt253mn core profit) from a Bt3mn loss in 2025, with an expectation of a 5% decrease in insurance revenue, a sharp 10.69 ppt ease in combined ratio to 87.39% on no repeat of earthquake and flood claims and a reduction in low-margin A&H products, plus extra income of Bt81mn from the legal settlement.
Expect good dividend yield for 2026. THRE will resume dividend payments at a payout ratio of at least 40% in 2026 after skipping a dividend for 2025. We expect 2026F DPS to be Bt0.04 (50% payout), translating to a good dividend yield of 8.8%.
Maintain OUTPERFORM with a TP hike. We maintain our OUTPERFORM rating on expectation of a strong recovery in both insurance and investment earnings, an attractive 8.8% dividend yield for 2026F and undemanding valuation at 0.45x PBV relative to 6.5% ROE and 7x PE. We raised TP to Bt0.5 (based on 0.5x PBV for mid-2027F) from Bt0.43 on a roll over to mid-2027.
Risk considerations. Key risks include: 1) higher claims than expected, 2) slower premium growth than expected, 3) ESG risk on market conduct.
