2Q26: Slight miss on insurance service result
TLI’s 2Q26 results were slightly below expectations, with weaker-than-expected insurance results offset by stronger investment results. For the first time, TLI announced an interim DPS of Bt0.25, equivalent to a 2.3% dividend yield. We maintain OUTPERFORM, supported by benefits from the copayment scheme on claim, a long-term recovery in bond yields, and an attractive expected dividend yield of 6.3%. We raise our TP to Bt13 from Bt12 on a roll over to mid-2027.
2Q26: Slight miss on insurance service result. TLI’s 2Q26 earnings fell 9% YoY but inched up 1% QoQ to B3.3bn, 5% below INVX forecast. The miss was due to lower-than-expected insurance service profit. Highlights are summarized below.
- Insurance service profit decreased 9% YoY and 8% QoQ in 2Q26. Insurance revenue slipped 1% YoY and 1% QoQ, while insurance expenses rose 4% YoY and 4% QoQ. Insurance profit margin decreased 340 bps YoY and 274 bps QoQ (on seasonality). For 1H26, new business contractual service margin (CSM) decreased by 26% YoY, due to a surge in medical rider’s sales prior to the implementation of copayment conditions in March 2025.
- Net investment profit decreased 6% YoY (lower investment gains) but rose 47% QoQ (larger investment gain). Investment income rose 8% YoY and 5% QoQ, driven by higher dividend income from domestic equity investment. Yield on investment rose 19 bps YoY and 37 bps QoQ. Gains on financial instruments amounted to merely Bt3mn in 1Q26 vs. a Bt106mn loss in 1Q25 and Bt394mn gain in 4Q25. ROI rose 26 bps YoY and 12 bps QoQ.
Lower EV and VNB. As of 2Q26, embedded value (EV) was Bt16.28/share, a decrease of 8.1% from YE2025, driven by the material increase in market interest rates (a negative economic variance) together with dividend payments. In 1H26, value of new business (VNB) decreased by 34% YoY to Bt0.25/share due to a 22% YoY fall in annualized premium equivalent (APE) from the high base in 1Q25 and a decrease in VNB margin by 9.4 ppt to 53.31% in 1Q26 from 68.89% in 1Q25.
2H26 and 2026 outlook. We expect 2026F earnings to grow 12% as a result of better investment income from higher dividend income and rising bond yield. 1H26 earnings accounted for 49% of our full-year forecast. We expect 2H26 earnings to rise YoY and HoH from higher net investment profit.
Interim dividend. For the first time, TLI announced an interim DPS of Bt0.25, equivalent to a 2.3% dividend yield. We expect a 2026F DPS of Bt0.70 (60% payout), equivalent to a 6.3% dividend yield.
Maintain OUTPERFORM with a TP hike. We maintain OUTPERFORM, supported by expected benefits from the copayment scheme on claim, a long-term recovery in bond yields, and an attractive expected dividend yield of 6.3%. We raised TP to Bt13 (based on 0.95x PBV for mid-2027) from Bt12 on a roll over to mid-2027.
Risk considerations. Key risks: 1) pressure on customer purchasing power from inflation headwinds, 2) capital market volatility, and 3) bond yield movement.
