Muted traffic; lacks catalysts
We keep our neutral view on the sector as it has no catalyst from new projects after the house dissolution. Traffic recovery in Nov was muted for expressway, with MRT (Blue Line) and BTS (core Green Line) recording a YoY drop in traffic; the exception was the Yellow and Pink lines, which are still ramping up. Going forward, the outlook for traffic recovery is challenging in the face of a weak economy. In the sector, BEM is our top pick with an end-2026F SOTP-based TP of Bt7.3 as it has the best earnings visibility. We rate NEUTRAL on BTS (TP Bt3.2) and BTSGIF (TP Bt2.9).
Expressway traffic – Back to a YoY drop. Expressway traffic grew 1.7% MoM, but fell 0.3% YoY in Nov to 1.1mn trips/day. The MoM increase reflects the lack of a holiday in the month, while YoY turned down again after reporting growth in Oct. This suggests that the weak economy and fewer international tourists continue to pressure. Average traffic in 11M25 was 1.1mn trips/day, slipping 1% YoY. This is still in line with our 2025F full-year forecast of -1%.
MRT (Blue Line) – Also fell YoY. Average ridership was 456.7k trips/day in Nov, increasing 2.2% MoM, but falling 1.3% YoY, led by the same factors as the expressway. In 11M25, average ridership was 428.9k trips/day, up 0.5% YoY vs 1% in our full-year forecast.
BTS (core Green Line) – Slightly behind expectations. Average ridership was 586.7k trips/day in Nov, up 6.4% MoM, but down 1.1% YoY. This brings its 8MFY26 (Apr–Nov 2025) average ridership to 541k, down 2.6% YoY vs our full-year forecast of no growth, putting it slightly behind our assumptions. We will wait to see ridership momentum in following months before revisiting our forecast. Our sensitivity analysis suggests that each 1ppt slip in average ridership would shave Bt0.05/sh off its TP.
Yellow Line – Momentum on track. Average ridership was 48.7k trips/day in Nov, improving 2.6% MoM and 11.7% YoY. This brings 8MFY26 average ridership to 45k trips vs our assumption of 44k in FY2026F, on track.
Pink Line – Still in line with our full-year forecast. Average ridership was 65.9k trips/day, growing 8.7% MoM and 9.9% YoY. This brings its 8MFY26 average ridership to 61.9k trips/day vs our full-year forecast of 64k. We believe it will achieve our forecast as the expansion to Muang Thong Thani in June has helped add riders.
No catalyst for the next 3 months. After the house dissolution, projects such as the Double-Deck, Bt50 maximum expressway fare, and Bt40 daily cap for all train lines, linked to a concession buyback, will be put on the back burner until the new government is seated, likely in Apr 2026. We therefore see no real catalyst for the sector in terms of new projects.
Risks and concerns. Key concern for the sector is the traffic recovery. Key ESG risk is travel safety. A perception of lack of safety would reduce traffic.
