3Q25: In line with estimates

3Q25 core profit was in line at Bt1.2bn, -19% YoY on lower sales and gross margin, amid higher SG&A/sales but flat QoQ. Factoring in a cut in its 2025F sales target to reflect the unfavorable FX impact, we cut our 2025F by 7% and 2026F by 4%. We expect 4Q25F core earnings to drop slightly YoY on lower sales on unfavorable FX and higher SG&A/sales as a rise in freight costs will outpace a wider gross margin (raising prices to adjust for higher costs) and down QoQ on seasonality. Progress on potential collaboration with MC, if any, will be a share price catalyst. We maintain Outperform with a mid-2026 TP of Bt15, based on 15x PE (average on 10-year PE).

3Q25 net profit was Bt1.3bn, -7% YoY but +2% QoQ, in line with estimates. Excluding Bt109mn FX gain and loss on asset impairment, 3Q25 core profit was Bt1.2bn, -19% YoY from lower sales and gross margin amid higher SG&A/sales but flat QoQ.

3Q25 highlights. Sales fell 1% YoY, with the unfavorable FX impact of 2.8% YoY outpacing organic sales growth of 1.8% YoY in the pet care and frozen units. Sales in pet care grew 6% YoY from a rise in sales volume in the US and Europe and higher premium mix sales, and sales in the frozen unit grew 5% YoY off a rise in sales volume in the feed segment and frozen shrimp in the US. However, sales in the ambient unit fell 4% YoY on lower selling price from the adverse FX impact and a 1% drop in sales volume (lower OEM sales in the US and weaker sales in the Middle East off the 3Q24 high base that offset higher branded sales in Europe). Gross margin fell 50bps YoY to 19%, as lower margin at the ambient unit (US tariff cost not yet fully passed through in product prices plus higher tuna raw material costs) and the pet care unit (off the 3Q24 high base from gain from the reversal of inventory write-off, tariff support to customers and FX impact) outpaced a wider margin at the frozen unit (wider margin at feed and chilled salmon units). SG&A/sales rose 30bps YoY to 13.8% on higher marketing expenses to boost branded products in the US and Europe outdoing the slip in transformation costs to Bt212mn (-9% YoY and QoQ).

New guidance. TU has cut its 2025 sales target to -2-4% YoY (vs -1-2% YoY earlier and -5% YoY in 9M25) from unfavorable FX and US tariff impact; it has kept its gross margin target at 18.5-19.5% (vs 19.2% in 9M25), raised its SG&A/sales target to 13.5-14.5% (vs 13.5-14% targeted earlier and 14.5% in 9M25) on high marketing expenses to boost sales of branded products, and targets a drop in transformation costs in the Sonar program in 2026F and the Tailwind program in 2027F. In October, spot skipjack tuna price edged up to US$1,670/ton (+11% YoY, +4% MoM) from lower catches; it expects spot skipjack tuna price in 2025F and 2026F to be close to 10M25’s average of US$1,583/ton. Although the offer by Mitsubishi Corporation (MC; 6% holding in TU) to acquire another 14% in TU was cancelled in September, the strategic partnership between TU and MC is unchanged. TU is currently discussing potential collaboration with MC, with different options being considered.

In 4Q25, TU expects sales to be relatively stable YoY with robust pet care and frozen sales amid weak ambient sales from unfavorable FX, monitoring sales volume after the price increase. TU raised selling prices for some branded products in the ambient unit in the US in mid-3Q25, with a full quarter of the new pricing in 4Q25. Pending demand monitoring and a final US tariff decision by Supreme Court, TU may up prices again in early 2026. With a rise in price to cover higher costs, TU expects its 4Q25 gross margin to be close to 3Q25. Its 4Q25 SG&A/sales will tend to stay high on higher freight costs amid lower marketing and transformation costs.

Key risks: Inflationary pressure and strong THB. Key ESG risks are GHG emissions, waste management (E), customer welfare, product quality management, safety policies (S).
