2Q25: Exceptionally robust, as expected
As expected, 2Q25 earnings rose robustly as the result of an exceptionally high cash collection from a large NPA and an NPL and we expect a fall in 2H25 earnings HoH on less cash collection on large NPLs and NPAs. Dividend yield in 2025 is expected to be decent at 5.95%. We maintain Neutral with an unchanged TP of Bt8. We believe the exceptionally good 2Q25 results have been priced in and are unsustainable.
2Q25: Up robustly YoY and QoQ. In line with expectations, BAM reported 2Q25 earnings of Bt1.29bn, surging 184% YoY and 497% QoQ.
Highlights:
1) Total cash collection shot up 76% YoY and 118% QoQ to Bt6.96bn in 2Q25 upon recording Bt1.45bn from the sale of land from a large NPA and Bt2.8bn from a major NPL debtor as part of a debt restructuring agreement.
2) Interest income was essentially flat YoY and QoQ in 2Q25. Within this, the cash portion rose 139% YoY and 137% QoQ but the accrual portion shrank 88% YoY and 88% QoQ. Gain on NPLs fell 52% YoY and 43% QoQ in 2Q25. Gross margin on NPL cash collection fell 26.86 ppt YoY and 23.18 ppt to merely 8.17%.
3) Gain on NPAs rose 138% YoY and 381% QoQ in 2Q25. Gross margin from NPA cash collection rose 29.77 ppt YoY and 38.06 ppt QoQ to an exceptional high of 69.73%.
4) Cost of funds rose 10 bps YoY and QoQ to 3.6% in 2Q25.
5) Credit cost (excluding accrued interest) rose 59 bps YoY and 63 bps QoQ to
0.78% in 2Q25, reflecting a prudent provisioning policy to factor in the weak macro outlook.
6) Cost to income ratio rose 64 bps YoY and 90 bps QoQ to 22.15% in 2Q25. Opex decreased 27% YoY and 46% QoQ in 2Q25.
2H25 and 2025F earnings. 1H25 earnings accounted for 67% of our full-year forecast, but we expect 2H25 earnings to fall HoH with lower large cash collection from large NPLs and NPAs. BAM expects cash collection from large NPLs & NPAs at ~Bt1bn each in 3Q25 and 4Q25. We maintain our 2025F earnings growth of 40% on an expected 17% rise in cash collection, lower gross margin and stable cost of funds.
Decent dividend yield. We expect BAM to raise DPS from Bt0.35 in 2024 to Bt0.5 (72% payout) in 2025, translating to a decent dividend yield of 5.95%.
Maintain Neutral with an unchanged TP of Bt8 (based on DDM).
Key risks: 1) Cash collection risk from an economic slowdown, 2) a slowdown in property market demand and 3) rising competition from new players.
