4Q24: In line with estimates

Its 4Q24 core profit was in line at Bt1.5bn, -9% YoY from higher tax rate but +71% QoQ from seasonality. Its SSS grew in mid single digits YoY in January and low single digits YoY in the first half of February (even without the positive calendar effect from Chinese New Year), led by double digit growth YoY in fresh food and low to mid single digit growth YoY in dry food products, above sector average (flat YoY YTD). With SSS growth and wider EBIT margin, amid the 2024 normal tax rate base, we expect 2025F earnings to grow 12% YoY, starting from 1Q25F. We upgrade our 3-month tactical rating to Outperform from Neutral with an unchanged mid-2025 DCF (WACC of 7.1% and LT growth of 2.5%) PT of Bt27.5.

4Q24 net profit was Bt1.6bn, flat YoY but +135% QoQ, in line with estimates. Excluding Bt131mn FX gain (after tax), 4Q24 core profit was Bt1.5bn, down 9% YoY on the offset of better sales and EBIT margin by a higher effective tax rate but up 71% QoQ on seasonal factors. After a 1H24 DPS of Bt0.15, it announced a 2H24 DPS of Bt0.56 (XD on Apr 29), implying a 71% dividend payout ratio.

4Q24 sales. Sales grew 2% YoY on improvement in all units except for CSC. Modern retail supply chain (MSC) revenue grew 3% YoY on store expansion and SSS growth. SSS (excluding B2B sales) was +1.5% YoY (vs +0.02% YoY in 3Q24), or +2.2% YoY (including B2B sales), boosted by robust food sales. By sales mix, fresh food sales (17% of sales) grew in the low teens YoY and dry food sales (66% of sales) grew in the low single digits YoY, but non-food sales (15% of sales) fell in the mid single digits YoY. By format, hypermarkets grew 1.8% YoY, while supermarkets and Big C Mini grew 3% YoY. In 4Q24, it opened four Big C Foodplace stores, 14 Big C Mini stores and a Pure Drugstore (net closures), but it closed a hypermarket (Big C Ratburana from lease expiration), a Big C Marke, and three Big C HK supermarkets. Packaging supply chain (PSC) revenue grew 3% YoY on better glass packaging sales (+1% YoY) from higher demand for beverages and aluminum can packaging (+4% YoY) from higher carbonated soft drink and coffee sales in Thailand. Healthcare supply chain (H&TSC) revenue grew 8% YoY from a higher government budget. Consumer supply chain (CSC) revenue fell 2% YoY on lower revenue from trading with unfavorable currency translation from strong THB against VND, amid stable sales at food and non-food products (rising personal care product sales offset by declining paper sales).

4Q24 other items. Gross margin widened 80bps YoY on a better margin in all units: MSC (+30bps YoY) from better inventory & logistics management and a better sales mix, with more high-margin fresh food products (RTE & bakery), PSC (+75bps YoY) from lower soda ash and cullet raw material costs and cost-saving initiatives, CSC (+190bps YoY) from more high-margin personal care sales, lower fresh potato costs and less food product promotions, and H&TSC (+220bps YoY) from more high-margin sales. EBIT margin rose 70bps YoY on a wider gross margin and lower SG&A/sales

(-20bps YoY), amid slightly lower rental income (-1% YoY) with a lower rental rate from a less favorable tenant mix and renovation disruption, that beat down the higher occupancy rate of 89.1% (vs 86.7% in 4Q23 and 87.9% in 3Q24). Interest expenses fell 4% YoY from lower cost of funds. Tax rate was 22% (vs tax credit of 2% in 4Q23), as its retail business structure does not allow it to realize tax losses carried forward.

Key risks are changes in purchasing power, an inflation-led rise in costs and higher interest rate and new government policies. Key ESG risks are energy management, sustainable products (E), and labor/employment practices (S).
