4Q24: In line with estimates
4Q24 core profit was in line with estimates at Bt956mn, up from a core loss of Bt676mn in 4Q23 and 5% QoQ, backed by better sales and margin off high livestock prices and low feed costs. We raise our 2025F core earnings by 12%, factoring in higher local swine prices amid low feed costs YTD and a 3% addition to earnings after completing the purchase of an egg business in Singapore on Jan 3. With higher local swine prices, low feed costs and earnings from the egg business, we expect 1Q25 core earnings to grow YoY and QoQ. We stay Outperform with a new end-2025 SOTP TP of Bt23.5 (from Bt23) based on PE of 9-13x for feed, farm and food units.
4Q24 net profit in line at Bt983mn, up from a net loss of Bt656mn in 4Q23 but flat QoQ. Excluding Bt27mn one-off gains, 4Q24 core profit was Bt956mn, up from a core loss of Bt676mn in 4Q23 and 5% QoQ, backed by better sales and margin off high livestock prices and low feed costs. It is paying a 2024 DPS of Bt0.5 (XD on Mar 11).
4Q24 highlights. Sales grew 10% YoY on higher sales volume via capacity expansion. By segment, sales grew in the food & protein unit (65% of sales; +15% YoY) from higher sales volume and better livestock prices and in the pet unit (2% of sales; +16% YoY) on more sales volume. Gross margin widened to 14.9% (vs 9% in 4Q23 and 13.9% in 3Q24) on better livestock product prices amid low feed costs and a more favorable sales mix in the food & protein unit (portion of high-margin export and food service sales to total segment sales rising to 28% in 4Q24 from 25.7% in 4Q23) and international (more high-margin pork & chicken meat sales, replacing livestock sales).
2025F targets and 1Q25TD. BTG expects 2025F sales growth of 3-7% YoY on capacity expansion, gross margin at 13.5-15% (vs 13.5% in 2024) with a better local swine business from lower feed costs amid stable/better prices and more high-margin products or sales channels and SG&A/sales at 10-11% (vs 10.5% in 2024). Its 2025F targets do not yet include contribution from its 75% stake (at a cost of Bt1.9bn) in an egg business in Singapore, completed on Jan 3, which it sees as earnings accretive.
In 1Q25TD, local swine price is up to Bt76-82/kg, (+20% YoY, +10% QoQ), and local broiler price has also risen to Bt41.5/kg (+2% YoY, +9% QoQ). On the cost side, BTG keeps a 3-4-month feed inventory; thus, it will realize lower actual feed costs in 1Q25F after a drop in 4Q24 in spot corn and imported soybean meal prices to a 3-year low of Bt10/kg (-4% YoY, -17% QoQ) and Bt19/kg (-16% YoY, -8% QoQ). With higher prices amid lower costs in 1Q25TD, operations will be better than its 2025F targets.
Earnings revision and outlook. We raise our 2025F by 12%, factoring in: 1) better sales and margin to reflect higher local swine prices amid low feed costs in 2025TD;
2) earnings contribution of ~Bt100mn (+3%) from the egg business in Singapore (after deducting interest expenses after tax for funding this deal at cost of funds at 3% p.a.). Factoring in the egg business, we raise consolidated sales by Bt2.7bn (+2%) and assume a widening in gross margin of 50bps and in SG&A/sales of 30bps. With higher local swine prices, low feed costs and earnings from the egg business, we expect 1Q25 core earnings to grow YoY and QoQ.
Key risks are lower demand and prices from fragile economies and more supply, and higher feed costs. Key ESG risks are GHG emission, waste & water management (E), customer welfare, product quality management, health & safety policies (S).
