1Q26: Beat estimates on CVS sales & margin

1Q26 core profit was Bt8.9bn, +18% YoY and +23% QoQ, above estimates on better CVS sales and margin than expected. We estimate CVS SSS growth in April at close to the 1.9% YoY in 1Q26 on more beverage sales from extreme heat and off last year’s low base from cooler weather. We expect 2Q26F core earnings to continue growing YoY on solid CVS sales and product mix margin expansion, though higher transportation costs remain a key risk; earnings are likely to decline QoQ due to seasonality. We maintain Outperform with an end-2026 DCF TP of Bt65 (WACC 7.3%, LTG 1.5%).

1Q26 net profit was Bt9.1bn, +20% YoY and +26% QoQ. Excluding a one-off FX gain of Bt192mn, 1Q26 core profit was Bt8.9bn, +18% YoY and +23% QoQ, 7% above our estimates and 10% above consensus from better CVS sales and margin than expected. All of its 1Q26 growth of 18% YoY came from higher sales and margin at CVS, with stable earnings contribution from CPAXT, whose better sales and controlled SG&A/sales offset a weaker gross margin (+1% YoY, 60% stake held by CPALL).

1Q26 CVS highlights: SSS rose 1.9% YoY on higher sales brought by hotter weather, the government’s extension of alcohol selling hours (2–5 PM, from Dec 2025 to May 2026), the general election in February, which boosted domestic mobility, and the recovery in foreign tourist arrivals, particularly Chinese tourists, plus the offer of new products at promotional prices to attract customers. Customer average was 958/store/day (-0.5% YoY) and spending per ticket was Bt90 (+2% YoY). O2O sales portion to total sales was 11%, flat YoY and QoQ. Food products accounted for 76.3% of total sales (+20bps YoY), driven by stronger demand for RTE meals (meal boxes, sushi, kimbap, salad rolls, appetizers, and snacks), RTD and beverage products (All Café, All Select, protein shakes, yogurt drinks, and vitamin water, alcoholic beverages), while non-food products contributed 23.7%. In 1Q26, CPALL added 139 stores in Thailand, giving it a net 16,084 stores at end-1Q26, +4% YoY and +1% QoQ; it added 4 stores in Laos but closed 49 stores in Cambodia, giving it a net 93 stores overseas, -29% YoY and -33% QoQ, consisting of 63 in Cambodia and 30 in Laos. Product mix gross margin in the CVS unit widened to 28.1% (+20bps YoY and QoQ), off a higher food product margin (+30bps YoY on more high-margin RTE & RTD sales, plus more high-margin alcoholic beverage sales on a shift in consumer lifestyle) amid a slight rise in non-food product margin (+10bps YoY from more high-margin personal care sales). SG&A grew 8% YoY in tandem with expansion.

1Q26 CPAXT highlights. CPAXT reported a 1Q26 core profit of Bt2.7bn, +1% YoY and +4% QoQ. The YoY stability was due to: 1) better sales from store expansion and consolidation of revenue from the Lucky Frozen acquisition, amid moderate SSS (SSS at +0.6% YoY and flat YoY from B2B & B2C units); 2) controlled SG&A/sales, reflecting better control of personnel expenses and lower depreciation following a revision in the useful life of software and computer assets in 2Q25. These outpaced a weaker gross margin (-50bps YoY): -30bps YoY at B2B from a weaker sales mix on more sales of food commodities during stockpiling and one-off clearance expenses on non-food inventory, and -50bps YoY at B2C, of which -20bps YoY came from Malaysia from a weaker sales mix and -30bps YoY in Thailand on the one-off booking of inventory losses following physical stock counts at end-1Q26.
