Preview 1Q25F: Down both YoY and QoQ

We expect 1Q25F core profit of Bt2.4bn, -4% YoY and -18% QoQ. In April, we expect SSS contracted 5% YoY (vs -3.5% YoY in 1Q25), hit by weaker sales in the fashion unit in Thailand in early April after the earthquake and the hardline unit in Thailand and Vietnam from cooler weather, together with more appreciation of the THB against the VND. To factor in a lower SSS assumption of a contraction of 2.7% YoY (from +1.5% YoY), we cut our 2025F by 6%. We stay NEUTRAL with a new end-2025 DCF TP of Bt28 (from Bt35) (WACC 7.2%, LT growth 2%) from earnings revision and the cut of its LT growth to 2% from 2.25% to match slower growth in Thai consumption.

Expect 1Q25F net profit of Bt2.4bn, +12% YoY and +12% QoQ. Without extra items (versus extra losses of Bt353mn in 1Q24 and Bt794mn in 4Q24), 1Q25F core profit is expected at Bt2.4bn, -4% YoY and -18% QoQ. Behind the YoY drop is SSS contraction, narrower EBIT margin on a softer gross margin and lower equity income.

1Q25F highlights. Retail sales are expected to grow 2% YoY, with store expansion outpacing SSS contraction. We expect SSS (simple average by unit) to contract 3.5% YoY, weaker than -2% YoY in 4Q24, on weaker SSS in Thailand (72% of sales) at -2% YoY (vs +1% YoY in 4Q24) and Italy (7% of sales) at -12% YoY (vs -4% YoY in 4Q24) with slightly better SSS in Vietnam (21% of sales) at -7% YoY (vs -9% YoY in 4Q24), partly from fewer days (2024 had leap day, February 29), slicing 1% off SSS. In Thailand, we expect a hit from the lower spending under this year’s E-Receipt program that cut the maximum on general goods to Bt30,000 (from Bt50,000 in Jan-Feb 2024) and fewer spending days at 44 (vs 46 in Jan-Feb 2024). In Italy, we expect sales to continue to be hit by slow spending on luxury brands by Chinese tourists and the appreciation of the THB against the EUR (-8% YoY). In Vietnam, sales were hurt by the appreciation of the THB against the VND (-8% YoY), with sales in the local currency growing in the low single digits YoY in the food unit but contracting in the low to mid single digits YoY in the hardline unit. EBIT margin will fall 10bps YoY from a lower gross margin (-50bps YoY) on a less favorable sales mix with more low-margin retail sales in the food unit (Go Wholesale and sales in Vietnam) and the fashion unit (more promotions and cautious consumer spending on value-oriented products) outpacing lower SG&A/sales (-30bps YoY) from well-controlled personnel and utilities expenses. Equity income is expected to fall 28% YoY without contribution from GrabTaxi Holdings (Thailand) Co., Ltd after a share swap to hold 1% in Grab Holdings Ltd (listed on NASDAQ) in 4Q24.

Weaker SSS in April. For April 1-27, we expect a shrinkage in SSS of 5% YoY (vs -3.5% YoY in 1Q25) from weaker SSS in Thailand and Vietnam at -2.5% YoY and -12% YoY (vs
-2% YoY and -7% YoY in 1Q25) and unchanged weak SSS in Italy at -12% YoY (similar to 1Q25). In Thailand, we believe sales were lower in the fashion unit over the first 10 days in April from poor sentiment post-earthquake, weaker sales of cooling appliances in the hardline unit as more rain YoY brought cooler weather, and unchanged sales in the food unit from its promotional campaigns in Tops Supermarket. In Vietnam, we expect sales to be hit by greater appreciation of the THB against the VND (-10% YoY vs -8% YoY in 1Q25), though sales in the local currency grew in the low single digits YoY in the food unit but contracted more steeply in the hardline unit from less favorable weather, similar to Thailand. In Italy, we expect weaker spending on luxury brands amid the narrower appreciation of the THB against the EUR (-4% YoY vs -8% YoY in 1Q25).
