ใน 2Q68 เนื่องจากส่วนต่างราคา HDPE ลดลงมาอยู่ที่ US$332/ตัน (-8.5% QoQ, +2.7% YoY) และส่วนต่างราคา PP ลดลงมาอยู่ที่ US$298/ตัน (-15% QoQ, -5.4% YoY) ใน 3Q68
3Q25: Worse net loss than expected
SCC reported a 3Q25 net loss, 8% worse than INVX estimate and 48% worse than consensus. Core profit was better than we expected on better cement business, which continues to be aided by higher selling prices. SCC’s management believes 4Q25 will continue difficult due to the ongoing global economic uncertainty, volatile oil price and chemical plant additions that will prolong the oversupply, but with some offset by the higher cement ASP. We maintain our Neutral rating with a mid-2026 target price of Bt227 based on SOTP valuation.
3Q25 net loss. SCC reported a net loss of Bt669mn in 3Q25, 8% worse than INVX on a greater NRV loss and 48% worse than consensus estimates, reversing from a net profit of Bt17.3bn in 2Q25, when it recorded a huge fair value adjustment of its 30.57% investment stake in Chandra Asri Petrochemical (CAP). In 3Q25 SCC recorded Bt1.35bn in net realizable value (NRV) loss and Bt95mn in business restructuring expenses. Core profit was Bt774mn, higher than our forecast, as the cement business continued to benefit from higher selling prices, which kept the slip in the cement business group's profit to only 1% QoQ, despite low season, and gave a jump of 190% YoY. The chemical business returned to a loss of Bt4bn in 3Q25 (2Q25 profit of Bt12.9bn, 3Q24 loss of Bt1.48bn) due to the Bt1.35bn NRV loss recorded. Excluding the NRV loss and loss from LSP, the chemical business's core profit was Bt390mn, down from Bt745mn in 2Q25, due to a fall in HDPE spread to US$332/ton (-8.5% QoQ, +2.7% YoY) and in PP spread to US$298/ton (-15% QoQ, -5.4% YoY) in 3Q25.
Difficulties ahead. SCC's management views 4Q25 as challenged by ongoing global economic uncertainty. The Thai economy is also weak and major government projects will likely have to wait until after the election. The chemical business will be challenged by the addition of 3.5mn tons of new cracker capacity from China in 2026. HDPE/PP spreads are slipping again, down 2.4% and 13% QoQ in 4Q25 QTD. However, the price of propane has come down to US$40-50/ton below naphtha price. This helps LSP, which can use propane as a feedstock for up to 70%, allowing it to continue operating without increasing losses for a period, and SCC will thus continue to run the LSP unit. The drop in propane prices is mainly driven by the Middle East attempting to maintain market share by releasing more low-cost supply into the market. Chinese PDH plants that use propane as feedstock are also increasing production again, and with new PDH plants coming on line next year, this remains a risk to monitor. The cement business still looks good in the government project segment, with steady demand plus higher selling prices, with the average cement selling price rising to Bt2,125/ton in 3Q25 from Bt2,075/ton in 2Q25. In 4Q25, cement prices are expected to rise slightly after TPIPL began to raise its cement prices to bring them closer to SCC and SCCC (TPIPL's selling prices are generally largely discounted compared to SCC and SCCC).
Valuation/recommendation. We maintain our Neutral rating as we believe the market has already priced in the positives (share price has risen 66% from bottom in Feb 2025) and the expectation of weak core earnings in 2H25 from low chemical spreads. Our mid-2026 TP is Bt227 based on SOTP (8x EV/EBITDA for chemical and packaging, 9x for cement, and 1.5x PBV for associates).
Key risks. Higher costs from inflationary pressure, higher interest rate and exchange rate volatility and oversupply in the cement and chemical businesses.
