4Q24 core profit was Bt311mn, down 23% YoY and 45% QoQ, 10% below INVX and 18% below consensus, on low equity income and high tax rate. While the Thai broiler industry in 2025TD is looking better, with higher local prices amid lower feed costs, we are cautious on 2025F earnings: 1) it has a stagnant export sales volume target YoY as it becomes more selective on orders rather than cutting prices amid THB appreciation against the US dollar; 2) it is hit the hardest by the rise in minimum wage from Jan 1 on a high proportion of labor cost and factories in Chonburi, where the rise was highest; 3) it has no plan to raise production capacity this year. We maintain our NEUTRAL with a new end-2025 SOTP TP of Bt11 (from Bt11.5), based on PE of 6-9x for feed, farm and food units, after factoring in a 2% cut in 2025F equity income.
4Q24 net profit in line at Bt383mmn, -7% YoY and -29% QoQ. Excluding Bt72mn FX gain, 4Q24 core profit was Bt311mn, -23% YoY and -45% QoQ, 10% below our estimates and 18% below consensus on low equity income and high tax rate at 29% from deferred tax adjustment. It is paying a 2024 DPS of Bt0.2, XD on March 5.
4Q24 highlights. Sales grew 2% YoY as better sales of food (+2% YoY, led by stronger direct exports) and farm (+5% YoY, higher sales to GFN) offset the fall in feed sales (-2% YoY on lower fish and animal feed sales). At the food unit, direct export sales rose to a new high of 9,800 tons, +27% YoY on higher exports into Europe, Japan and Malaysia and +3% QoQ on better exports to Japan. Prices to Europe and Japan for the industry averaged US$4,100/ton (flat YoY, +2.5% QoQ) and US$4,700/ton (-6% YoY, -2% QoQ). Local chicken rib byproduct price was Bt12.7/kg, -13% YoY and -12% QoQ. Gross margin widened to 12.8%, +20bps YoY, on a rise in high-margin export sales and low feedstock costs. Equity income fell to Bt119mn (-40% YoY), on a drop in contribution from McKey (Bt82mn, -39% YoY) and GFN (Bt37mn, -43% YoY) from FX loss (McKey) and lower local byproduct prices (GFN) that outpaced more exports.
More cautious in 2025F. In 1Q25TD, the Thai chicken industry is looking a bit better, with a rise in local broiler and chicken rib byproduct prices to Bt41.5/kg (+2% YoY, +9% QoQ) and Bt17.5/kg (+6% YoY, +38% QoQ), amid low spot corn and soybean meal prices at Bt10.8/kg (+4% YoY, +6% QoQ) and Bt16.2/kg (-24% YoY, -8% QoQ). However, some factors are making us cautious on 2025F earnings. First, GFPT expects 2025F export sales volume to be flat YoY after a robust 2024F volume of 36,600 tons (+25% YoY), as it will shift focus to high-margin export sales rather than cutting prices to attract more orders as the baht strengthens against the US dollar. In 1Q25F, GFPT expects export sales volume of 8,000-8,500 tons (vs 8,300 tons in 1Q24) with stable orders from Europe and Japan amid unchanged US$ export prices (albeit lower THB prices from THB appreciation). Second, we estimate GFPT will be affected by higher labor costs brought by the rise in minimum wage (starting from Jan 1, depending on province) as its labor costs account for 12% of total costs (sector’s highest) and its factories are located in provinces where wages were raised the most: Chonburi (50%, 13% wage increase) and Samut Prakarn (50%, 5% wage increase), plus associates’ factories are in Chonburi (100%) for GFN and Chonburi (50%) and Samutprakarn (50%) for McKey. We expect the wage rise to hit earnings by 8% in 2025F. Lastly, GFPT has no plan to expand its owned and associate capacity this year.
Key risks are changes in feed costs and government policies, higher swine supply (substitute protein). Key ESG risks are energy, waste & water management, sustainable products (E), health & safety policies for customers and labor (S).
