Preview 1Q25F: Better earnings

1Q25F core profit is estimated at Bt576mn, +31% YoY and +85% QoQ, with higher equity income and margin (low feed costs and slightly more high-margin export sales YoY). We raise our 2025F by 9% to reflect better gross margin and equity income in 1Q25F. We expect 2Q25F to be relatively stable YoY and QoQ off last year’s high base for exports, a return to normal contribution from McKey and higher local product price amid low feed costs. We stay NEUTRAL with a new end-2025 SOTP TP of Bt11.5 (from Bt11), based on PE of 6-8x for feed, farm and food units.

Expect 1Q25F net profit of Bt586mn, +26% YoY and +53% QoQ. Excluding a Bt10mn FX gain, we expect 1Q25F core profit to be Bt576mn, +31% YoY and +85% QoQ, backed by higher equity income (GFN & McKey) and a wider margin brought by low feed costs and slightly more high-margin export sales YoY.

1Q25F highlights. Sales grew 2.5% YoY to Bt4.6bn on better food and live chicken sales. For the food business, we estimate direct export sales volume at 8,700 tons (+5% YoY on better sales to Japan, but -11% QoQ on seasonality). In terms of price, THB direct export prices slid on the 5% YoY strengthening in the THB against the US dollar while USD export prices were unchanged. Local chicken rib byproduct price was Bt12.7/kg, +1% YoY and +31% QoQ. Gross margin is estimated at 13.9%, +130bps YoY, with lower feed costs and more high-margin export sales outpacing the local minimum wage hike. GFPT keeps three months of feed inventory and 4Q24 spot local corn price fell 4% YoY and 17% QoQ to Bt10/kg and imported soybean meal cost fell 16% YoY and 8% QoQ to Bt18.5/kg. SG&A/sales will fall to 7.8%, -40bps YoY, on lower freight costs amid rising sales. Equity income will rise to Bt300mn (+29% YoY, +152% QoQ), on better contribution from McKey at Bt190mn (+35% YoY, +130% QoQ from higher exports off 4Q24’s low base) and GFN at Bt110mn (+21% YoY, +197% QoQ from better local product prices, lower feed costs and more exports).

What 2Q25 looks like. We expect 2Q25F earnings to be stable YoY and QoQ, off last year’s high base for exports and a return to normal equity income from McKey. In 2Q25TD, local broiler price is Bt40/kg (-1% YoY, +6% QoQ) and local chicken rib byproduct price is Bt19/kg (+17% YoY, +14% QoQ). Meanwhile, 1Q25 spot blended feed costs stayed low with a 24% YoY and 9% QoQ drop in spot imported soybean meal to Bt16.8/kg outpacing the slight 5% YoY, 9% QoQ rise in spot corn prices to Bt10.9/kg. GFPT expects export sales volume to stay above 9,000 tons/quarter in 2Q25-3Q25F, up from 8,700 tons in 1Q25 on seasonality but close to 9,000-9,500 tons in 2Q24-3Q24 from a high export base into Europe. It has not yet seen any effect - either positive or negative from US tariffs on its exports into Europe, Japan and Asia; it does not export directly to the US. Equity income from McKey will stay high from high local byproduct price, low feed costs, and more exports; equity income from GFN will return to normal without a repeat shift in export sales into 1Q25 from 4Q24.

Earnings revision and upside. We raise our 2025F by 9% to reflect a better gross margin and equity income in 1Q25F. We have not yet included upside if the Thai government approves the import of low-cost corn and soybean meal feed from the US (soon to be negotiated), lower production costs over the medium to long term.

Key risks are changes in feed costs and government policies, higher swine supply (substitute protein). Key ESG risks are energy, waste & water management, sustainable products (E), health & safety policies for customers and labor (S).
