High Conviction: CPF 1Q68:

1Q25 core profit was Bt8.5bn, jumping from a core profit of Bt532mn in 1Q24 and up 44% YoY, 25-30% above estimates on a wider margin than expected. Factoring in a wider gross margin from higher swine prices in Thailand and Vietnam amid lower feed costs YTD together with earnings accretion from its 23.8% share acquisition in CPP in April, we raise our 2025F core earnings by 22%. These factors will support continued YoY and QoQ growth in 2Q25F earnings. We maintain Outperform with a new end-2025 SOTP TP of Bt32 (from Bt30): Bt8 for CPF itself (6.5-8.5x PE for feed, farm and food units) and Bt24 for CPALL and CPAXT.

Catalyst #1: 1Q25 beat estimates. 1Q25 net profit was Bt8.5bn, +642% YoY and +103% QoQ, 25-30% above estimates on a wider margin than expected. Excluding a Bt12mn one-off gain, 1Q25 core profit was Bt8.5bn, jumping from core profit of Bt532mn in 1Q24 and up 44% YoY. The YoY improvement was underwritten by: 1) a wider gross margin on higher livestock prices in Thailand and Vietnam and lower feed costs; 2) a rise in equity income (+92% YoY) from CTI (earnings back in the black vs a loss in 1Q24 from better swine prices in China amid lower feed costs) and CPALL and CPAXT (robust sales and margin).

Catalyst #2: Higher swine prices in Thailand and Vietnam amid lower feed costs in 2Q25TD. In 2Q25TD, spot imported soybean meal and local corn price have fallen to Bt16.3/kg (-23% YoY, -3% QoQ) and Bt10.4/kg (-5% YoY, -5% QoQ). Swine prices in Thailand and Vietnam have risen to Bt87/kg (+26% YoY, +10% QoQ) and VND68,500/kg (+9% YoY, +4% QoQ), above breakeven at the gross profit level of Bt60-65/kg and VND43,000/kg, from tighter supply after the spread of ASF in late 2024 to early 2025 in Thailand and in 2H24 in Vietnam. Local broiler price is moderate at Bt41/kg (-7% YoY, +2% QoQ, above breakeven at the gross profit level of Bt37-38/kg), while swine price in China is edging down to CNY14.8/kg (-10% YoY, -2% QoQ, close to breakeven at the gross profit level of CNY14.5/kg).

Catalyst #3: Earnings accretion from 23.8% share acquisition in CPP from 2Q25F. On April 21, 2025, CPF’s board approved the acquisition of a 23.8% stake in CPP for US$1.1bn (Bt36bn) from Itochu Corporation, raising CPF's stake in CPP from 76.2% to 100%. The purpose of the investment was to give CPF additional profit from CPP (82% revenue from CP Vietnam, capturing benefit of currently higher swine prices), improve ROE and enhance CPF's flexibility in strategic management and operations. In terms of valuation, we estimate the acquisition price to be equivalent to 12x core PE (12-month trailing, ending March 2025). We estimate the acquisition will add Bt1.3bn to 2025F earnings (April onwards) and Bt1.9bn in 2026F, with the earnings contribution from the additional 23.8% stake in CPP outstripping interest expenses (after tax) on the assumption it funded the purchase entirely by borrowing at a cost of funds of 4.3% p.a. We estimate net IBD/E (excluding financial leases) will rise to 1.5x from 1.4x, but remain below debt covenant at 2.0x.

Catalyst #4: 2025F raised. We raise our 2025F core earnings by 22% on: 1) a wider gross margin from higher swine prices in Thailand and Vietnam amid lower feed costs YTD; 2) Bt1.3bn earnings accretion from 23.8% share acquisition in CPP in April, contributing to 7% to 2025F growth post revision.

Key risks: Weak prices from fragile purchasing power and more supply, high feed costs, strong THB. Key ESG risks are GHG emission, waste & water management (E), customer welfare, product quality management, health & safety policies (S).
