3Q25: Still in the red, hit by weak CPET
3Q25 net loss of Bt818mn was worse YoY and QoQ due to Bt432mn inventory loss and weak margins, though bettered consensus estimate. Adjusted net profit fell to Bt177mn (vs. Bt595mn in 2Q25, Bt2.98bn in 3Q24) amid industry headwinds and plant outages. Adjusted EBITDA fell 40% YoY and 18% QoQ to Bt9bn on lower volume, high energy cost and poor spreads. 9M25 net loss narrowed to Bt2.7bn (vs Bt20.4bn in 9M24) on the absence of large impairments. Results missed expectations, urging a 2025F earnings downgrade from a profit to a net loss of Bt1.2bn. We cut our TP to Bt19 (from Bt23) but maintain NEUTRAL.
Weak demand and spread hit CPET&IC1/. Adjusted EBITDA for CPET&IC (57% of EBITDA) dropped 39% YoY and 17% QoQ due to weak seasonal demand, planned turnaround of PO/MTBE and unplanned outages, including a fire in Indonesia. Adjusted EBITDA/t fell 30% YoY and 11% QoQ to US$67/t due to volume effect and modest product spread. The segment’s utilization fell to only 75% in 3Q25 from 82% in 2Q25 and 85% in 3Q24.
Higher feedstock cost hurt Indovinya’s margin. Adjusted EBITDA for Indovinya (surfactant business, 28% of EBITDA) rose 3% QoQ, supported by insurance income and seasonal demand in crop solutions, but fell 24% YoY due to margin pressure from higher PKO costs and FX losses in Brazil. HVA products contributed 92% of EBITDA with strong margins. Adjusted EBITDA/t weakened 17% YoY and 4% QoQ to US$243, the lowest since 1Q24 but still far above IVL’s average adjusted EBITDA/t of US$88.
Profit slump in the fiber segment. Adjusted EBITDA (11% of EBITDA) plunged 36% YoY and 35% QoQ, hit by weak PSF spreads, extended shutdowns in Europe and poor demand in Mobility and Hygiene units. Despite cost-savings efforts, including headcount reduction in Germany, that helped offset losses, adjusted EBITDA/t of the segment fell 37% YoY and 34% QoQ to seven-quarter low of US$73.
4Q25 profit to remain soft. We expect continued macroeconomic and geopolitical headwinds, seasonal effects, and PO turnaround to erode 4Q25 earnings despite the company’s strategic actions, i.e. cost optimization, asset rationalization, and tariff tailwinds. Management anticipates improved fundamentals from industry rebalancing in 2026, together with PET tariff benefits and competitor shutdowns in PO, especially in the US. The company targets over US$200mn in gains from asset sales and maintains strong liquidity of US$2.6bn to support transformation.
2025F revised down, maintain NEUTRAL. We slash our 2025F from profit to a net loss of Bt1.2bn after the 9M25 net loss of Bt2.7bn. We cut TP from Bt23 to Bt19 based on 0.9x PBV, -1.5SD of 5-year average. This implies 6.3x EV/EBITDA (2026F), -0.8SD reflecting the uncertain outlook of the petrochemical industry amidst ongoing trade negotiations. Upside risk is China’s measure to rationalize PET/PTA capacity.
Risk factors: 1) Weaker demand, 2) less efficiency improvement at new assets than expected and 3) changes in regulations on plastic products. Key ESG risk factors include the environmental impact of its business and how it adapts during the transition to clean energy and a circular economy.
