4% QoQ, +2% YoY
5 bps QoQ (+11 bps YoY)

1Q25: In line with estimates

In line with expectations, 1Q25 results reflected stable asset quality with easing credit cost, contracting loans, falling NIM, a seasonal decrease in non-NII and rising cost to income ratio. We expect earnings to be essentially flat in 2025 with an expected ease in credit cost to be offset by a narrowed NIM and rising cost to income ratio from IT expenses. We maintain Underperform with an unchanged TP of Bt39, seeing valuation as expensive and growth outlook as weak.

1Q25: In line. KTC reported 1Q25 earnings of Bt1.86bn (-1% QoQ, +3% YoY), in line with INVX and consensus forecasts.

Highlights.

  • Asset quality: NPLs were stable QoQ. Credit cost fell 44 bps QoQ (-44 bps YoY) to 5.99%. LLR coverage rose to 386% from 369% at 4Q24.
  • Loan growth: -4% QoQ, +2% YoY.
  • NIM: -43 bps QoQ (-18 bps YoY). Yield on loans fell 50 bps QoQ (-25 bps YoY). Cost of funds rose 5 bps QoQ (+11 bps YoY).
  • Non-NII: -3% QoQ (on seasonality) and +3% YoY. Fee income fell 4% QoQ on seasonality, but rose 7% YoY. Bad debt recovery fell 3% QoQ and 4% YoY.
  • Cost to income ratio: +46 bps QoQ (+11 bps YoY). Opex came down 1% QoQ (+1% YoY).

2025 outlook: Flattish. We continue to expect 2025F earnings to be essentially stagnant, as an expected reduction in credit cost will be offset by a narrowed NIM and higher cost to income ratio from rising IT budget. KTC targets loan growth at 4-5% (3% for personal loans and new bookings of Bt3bn for title loans) in 2025 vs. -1% in 2024 but we conservatively keep our forecast at 3%. We expect a 17 bps squeeze in NIM in 2025 as a result of the You Fight, We Help measure and cash back of 0.5% interest on credit card loans in 1H25 and 0.25% in 2H25 for debtors who make the 8% minimum repayment. We expect a 9 bps ease in credit cost in 2025. Cost to income ratio is expected to shoot up 230 bps on larger IT expenses from a core system upgrade.

Maintain Underperform with an unchanged TP of Bt39 (based on 2.3x 2025F PBV): valuation is expensive and earnings growth outlook is poor.

Key risks: 1) Asset quality risk from an uneven economic recovery, 2) a step up in credit card minimum payment from 8% to 10%, 3) the BoT’s household debt measures and 4) ESG risk from market conduct.
