Div. Market today | The SET generated a negative technical indicator, and fell to near support between 1380-1385, which may lead it to switch to recovery in the short term. However, the upper bound is limited at resistances of 1394 and 1400. A fall below 1380 will be negative, with next support at 1370. | Today’s highlights | • The US revised down its CPI for Dec. General CPI, including food and energy categories, increased 0.2%, lower than the previously reported 0.3%MoM. • UK government bond yields rose to their highest in over two months following comments by Jonathan Haskel, a member of the BoE, that led investors to adjust their expectations regarding interest rate cuts. • China's new yuan loans totalled CNY4.9trn, exceeding market expectations of CNY4.5trn, with total credit growth rising 10.4%. • Unrest continues in the Middle East following multiple air strikes by Israel in Rafah, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the evacuation of civilians from the southern Gaza Strip. • Venezuela has threatened to take military action against ExxonMobil over its exploration plans in the Essequibo region of Guyana, a territory claimed by Venezuela. • AOT has revised its 10-year airport expansion master plan in response to the steady growth in the aviation industry and plans to reintroduce the construction of a new passenger terminal in the south to alleviate congestion at Suvarnabhumi Airport, aiming to increase passenger capacity to 180mn. | Strategy today | In the short term the SET is expected to still be range-bound with no new catalyst and investors waiting for the gradual release of 4Q23 earnings and a risk US inflation will decrease less than expected. The strategy is “defensive and accumulate fundamental stocks to wait for the market recovery”. | Trading today | Weekly portfolio: In the short term the SET is expected to be range-bound, lacking catalysts and waiting for 4Q23 earnings results. We recommend “accumulate defensive and fundamental stocks to wait for market recovery” in three main themes: 1) Investors who are concerned about market fluctuations are recommended to invest in defensive stocks that are expected to beat the market with beta below 1 and price outperformance vs. the SET YTD – ADVANC, AOT, BDMS and TISCO. 2) Short-term investors (3-4 months) who want to invest in high-quality dividend stocks during dividend season, for stocks going XD between Mar–May 2024, with expected yield on 2023 (after deducting interim dividend) of over 5% - AP, BCP and KTB. For long-term investors who want to invest in high-quality dividend stocks to generate consistent cash flow, with dividend yield expected at over 5% on 2024 - AH, AP, BCP, KTB, PTT and TTB. 3) Long-term investors are recommended to invest via DCA accumulation as now would be good timing since the SET has fallen significantly and risk is low and stocks are undervalued – BBL, BDMS, BEM, CPALL, PTT and SCC, all of which are in SET100 and are leaders in their industries with ESG ratings of AAA and AA, valuation lower than 10-year historical average and strong operating results. For the short term we recommend being cautious on stocks whose 4Q23 results may be weaker than expected – BJC, HMPRO, GLOBAL, ZEN, AU, CPF, BTG, AWC and SIRI. | Daily top picks | TU: Exiting from its investment in Red Lobster will burden 4Q23 profit but be a plus to 2024. It is expected to report a net loss of Bt13.8bn in 2023 after booking impairment expense of Bt18.5bn, and then turn around to a net profit of Bt5.7bn in 2024 on a higher margin for the seafood business and no more losses from Red Lobster. CPAXT: 4Q23 net profit is expected to be the year’s best at Bt3.1bn, +25%YoY and +85%QoQ. It has set a high single-digit target for sales growth via adding branches and malls, SSS growth and a higher gross margin from focusing on selling high-margin fresh food products and greater synergy. | Today’s reports | BAM – Preview 4Q23: Weak; cut forecast & TP GPSC – 4Q23: Reflects lower demand QoQ MINT – 4Q23: Net profit missed, core in line | | Click here to read and/or download file Daily240212_E |
