4Q24: Beat consensus on one-time gains

SCCC reported a 4Q24 net profit of Bt2.5bn, beating consensus on a one-time gain from taking an additional stake in LANNA. Core profit was down 15.5% YoY and 9.2% QoQ in 4Q24 due to weak cement demand amid an economic slowdown and high household debt that clamped down on consumer spending. SCCC expects Thailand’s cement demand to come back slightly on government budget disbursement but does see risk from high household debt and fewer loan approvals at financial institutions. We maintain Neutral with a target price of Bt158.00, based on 13.1x PE or -1.0SD of its 10-year PE mean.

4Q24 beat consensus on one-time gain. SCCC reported a net profit of Bt2.5bn in 4Q24, higher than the market forecast of Bt926mn due to recognition of gains of Bt1.76bnn from a PPA and Bt129mn from fair value adjustment as it upped its holding in LANNA to 61.44% from 44.99%. Excluding extra items, 4Q24 core profit was Bt744mn, down 15.5% YoY and 9.2% QoQ on a drop in cement demand resulting from volatile weather, the economic slowdown and lower consumer purchasing power in a high-interest-rate environment and high household debt.

2025 outlook. SCCC is cautiously optimistic on the overall cement market in Thailand (47% of total revenue) in 2025. It expects growth to be backed by infrastructure projects, as well as more activity in the commercial and industrial sectors. However, the residential sector still faces challenges due to weak household spending, high household debt and stricter lending at financial institutions, all of which need to be monitored closely. We also see potential for increased price competition going forward, especially where supply exceeds demand, as is now being seen in Vietnam. The Vietnam market (10% of total revenue) is also projected to experience moderate growth, supported by government investment and large-scale infrastructure projects.

A DPS of Bt7 has been announced for the period of April to December 2024 (XD Mar 12), adding to the Bt4 already paid on 1H24 performance, giving a total 2024 DPS of Bt11, higher than our expected Bt9. This represents a dividend payout of 95% of core EPS, equivalent to a dividend yield of 6.9%.

Valuation & recommendation. We believe cement and building material demand needs more time to recover, and high household debt will continue to erode cement demand. Therefore, we keep our Neutral recommendation with a TP of Bt158.00 based on 13.1x PE or -1.0 S.D. of 10-year PE mean.

Key risks: Changes in purchasing power, higher energy costs and geopolitical issues. Key ESG risks are energy management and high greenhouse gas emissions.
