Cov.

Surrounded by bad news, expected to fall more
The SET is expected to continue to fall, surrounded by pressures from the trade war, concerns the US may enter a recession and China facing deflation. Although there is a positive from attempts to build market confidence, this may not be sufficient to counter the many negatives. The index has support between 1173-1160, and resistance between 1185-1190.
Today’s highlights
• Analysts warn that the US faces an increased risk of economic recession this year, dubbed "Trumpcession" (Trump + recession), caused by his tariff flip-flops.
• The Economic Stimulus Board approved the third phase of the Bt10,000 digital wallet program for 2.7mn citizens aged 16-20. Distribution is expected to begin in late 2Q25 or early 3Q25, with some conditions adjusted, such as not allowing purchases of mobile phones, electronic devices, etc.
• The Consumer Confidence Index for Feb stood at 52.0, rising for the sixth month, reflecting positive public sentiment following government economic stimulus, rising agricultural prices, export growth and crackdowns on call center scams.
• The Ministry of Transport estimates that 16.32mn vehicles will enter and exit Bangkok during Songkran. Airlines are cooperating to reduce ticket prices by 30% from ceiling rates and add 25,000 seats to accommodate travel demand.
• The SET said details of the Jump+ project are expected in May and will be implemented in the second half of 2025. Measures to transfer LTF investments to the new ThaiESG and share buybacks are under consideration, while the Thai Individual Savings Account (TISA) project remains in the conceptual stage and under design.
• The JSCCIB will meet with the Prime Minister on March 13 to plan responses to Trump 2.0 policies, proposing a special team to develop negotiation strategies with the US, considering imports from the US only for items Thailand lacks, and strictly controlling imports, especially of substandard products.
• Watch for the announcement of electricity rates for May-August 2025 by the Energy Regulatory Commission today, compared to the current rate of Bt4.15 per unit.
Strategy today
In the short term, the SET is expected to have some recovery driven by externals: the possible postponement of US tariffs for some products from Canada and Mexico, expectation for a stimulus package from China after the Two-Parliament meeting and US and China inflation, which are expected to be unchanged due to slowdowns in purchasing power and energy price and will lead the Fed to keep interest rate unchanged. Domestic issues to follow are political stability, additional stimulus, recovery of Chinese tourists in April and conditions for transferring LTF to new ThaiESG, which will reduce outflow from the market. Investment strategy is "Selective Buy".
Trading today
There are signs of recovery in the SET, driven by hopes from factors abroad and government’s plan to add stimulus. We recommend strategies across three themes with positive individual factors and two short-term trading ideas:
1) Undervalued stocks in SET100 that are expected to be targets of mutual funds: 1) YoY profit growth in 2025, 2) strong financial position and ability to service debt (interest coverage ratio >1), 3) low valuation: PER and PBV 2025F below -1SD,
4) regular dividends and 5) SETESG Ratings of A-AAA – CPALL, BDMS, MTC, MINT, BTG.
2) Dividend plays: 1) statistically, have paid dividends for 20 years and have SETESG Ratings of A-AAA, 2) dividend yield expected at 4% (excluding interim dividend) and payout ratio stable or rising and 3) strong profit in 2025 and upside to price of greater than 15% – AP, KTB, BBL, SPALI and KBANK.
3) Earnings plays whose prices do not reflect the profit growth in 1Q25 and are generally dividend payers – ADVANC, TRUE, AMATA, TIDLOR, MTC, AU and HTC.
4) Trading idea for risk-takers: stocks benefiting from positive sentiment from Opportunity Day this week –AU, TIDLOR, BTG and PTG.
Daily top picks
GULF: There is a short-term catalyst in the decline in bond yield. 1H25 profit is expected to remain strong, backed by capacity expansion. INTUCH acquisition continues as planned in 2Q25, which will improve the balance sheet and support the upcoming renewable project.
BCH: Seen as a defensive stock. 2025 core profit is expected to be outstanding with growth of 15%, driven by: 1) hospital expansion and renovations, 2) hospital upgrade in Pathum Thani, 3) new services and 4) operational growth in its three new hospitals. Valuation is attractive, trading at a 2025F PER of 22.5x (-2SD).
