BCH CPALL GULF MTC OR TRUE

Daily top picks

Moving sideways down

The SET is expected to move sideways with an upper bound at 1145 and a lower bound between 1130-1127. Yesterday the index did not push past an earlier high of 1145 for the second day before weakening, which is also resistances of 1145/1150, while supports are 1130-1127/1120. A fall below will open to a new decline. China and the US have reached a trade consensus to be reported to their leaders.

Today’s highlights

• China and the US have reached a trade cooperation framework, preparing to report to leaders of both sides. This is expected to help resolve the rare earth crisis, viewed as good for automotive, electronics, and China-linked stocks.
• The World Bank has cut its global economic growth forecast for this year to 2.3% from 2.7% due to Trump's tax policies. The US forecast was cut to 1.4% from 2.3% and Europe from 1.0% to 0.7%. However, it maintains China's forecast at 4.5% as China has supportive monetary and fiscal policies.
• The Minister of Finance said at a subcommittee meeting that the Bt157bn economic stimulus package has not reached any conclusion on projects submitted, as they need to carefully proceed and consider a variety of projects. Today's major economic stimulus policy committee meeting was thus put off.
• FETCO reports the investor confidence index for the next 3 months in May 2025 improved to "stable" from "sluggish". Investors view government economic stimulus measures as the biggest confidence-boosting factor, followed by domestic economic recovery.
• The Ministry of Tourism and Sport reports foreign tourist numbers for June 2-6 at 565,778 people, down 4% YoY and 2% WoW. The YoY decline was smaller than the 8% YoY drop the previous week, mainly due to improving trends in other tourist markets (ex-China markets).
• The cabinet approved the draft Electronic Securities Act to support electronic securities issuance processes, various transactions, supervision, including penalties for law enforcement. This is aimed at modernizing and enhancing capital market capabilities.

Strategy today

In the short term the SET is expected to move sideways as there are many factors to follow: trade negotiations between the US and trading partners, especially China, India and Japan, political uncertainty (a cabinet reshuffle) and the effect brought by the calculation adjustment for DELTA to comply with the limit of a single stock weighting in SET50/SET100 at 10% starting on Jul 1. We believe the SET has already passed its critical point (downside of 1032), which reflected the worst-case scenario for US tariffs. We retain our view of an opportunity to accumulate if the SET falls to 1120-1100. Our investment strategy remains "Selective Buy".

Trading today

The many uncertainties are expected to keep the SET moving sideways: US trade negotiations, politics and SET50/SET100 index calculation adjustment. Our investment strategy is for "selective buy" in four main themes and two trading themes with specific positive factors:
1. Earnings plays: those with 2Q25 profit expected to grow strongly, and core profit growth both YoY and QoQ – ADVANC, TRUE, CPALL, BTG and CPF.
2. SET50 stocks with SETESG rating higher than A, with dividend yield of above 5% expected, and on which we recommend Outperform – PTT, KTB, BBL and HMPRO.
3. Stocks expected to be targets of ThaiESGX: a) 2025 profit is expected to grow,
b) financial position is strong and c) are steady dividend payers - ADVANC, BDMS, CPALL, PTT, BCH, BTG and AP.
4. Defensive stocks whose revenue is largely domestic. For risk-averse investors waiting for greater clarity on Trump’s tariffs – BCH, CPALL, GULF, MTC, OR, TRUE.
5. Trading idea: For high-risk takers who want to speculate. a) Stocks likely to benefit from passive funds reducing DELTA holdings to 10% and increasing others in SET50 – PTT, ADVANC, AOT, GULF and CPF and b) stocks able to recover quickly once there is progress on trade negotiations – AMATA, AOT, MINT, PTT, TU and WHA.

Daily top picks

SCC: The stock price has a catalyst from US and China trade framework. Profit momentum is expected to continue to be upward for the rest of the year. 2Q25TD HDPE spread is 15.6%QoQ and 1.6%YoY higher, while PP spread is 18.8%QoQ and 19.0%YoY higher on lower naphtha cost. Higher cement selling price will also push 2Q25 and 2025 profit.

GPSC: Price has short-term catalysts from lower natural gas price and bond yield. 2025 core profit is expected to grow 3.9%, supported by higher capacity, selection in the renewable energy program phase 2.1 and unaffected by the global minimum tax (GMT).
