Daily top picks

Expect the MPC to cut rate

The SET is expected to move up but may slow down at resistances of 1112/1120, while supports are at 1095/1066. Hopes of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran still supports world stock markets, although targets are still being bombed. Domestically, follow the MPC meeting today, which we expect to cut rates, and a switch in funds to ThaiESGX in the final week of June.

Today’s highlights

• Trump called on Israel to immediately stop bombing Iran, while both have accused each other of violating agreements. Risks in the Middle East remain concerning.
• This afternoon, attention turns to the third MPC meeting this year. The market expects policy rate to be maintained at 1.75%, while we anticipate a 25bps rate cut, followed by another cut later this year.
• The SET announced the ending of temporary measures to reduce volatility in the SET, mai, and TFEX markets, with floor and ceiling limits returning to the 30% range, and the dynamic price band for securities will revert to the 10% range today.
• The Cabinet approved an economic stimulus package worth Bt115bn, with over 80% dedicated to infrastructure investment, followed by a Bt1.75bn tourism stimulus program. Registration for this program starts July 2, and benefits can be used from July 4 July to October 31. This is expected to boost GDP by 0.4%. We recommend stocks that benefit in construction and tourism: SCC, SCCC, STECON, CK, ERW and AAV.
• The FTI reported car exports in May at 81,071 units, down 9.2% YoY, while domestic sales rose 4.7% YoY to 52,229 units, driven by affordable EVs. We maintain a cautious view on auto stocks (AH, SAT, STANLY, and NYT).
• TRIS Rating revised down its 2025 growth outlook for vehicle title loan portfolios to 5-10%, from the previous 10-15%, due to lenders becoming more cautious in preserving credit quality amid fragile economic conditions. Debt repayment ability also remains vulnerable.

Strategy today

In the short term the SET is expected to continue to fluctuate in response to external and domestic pressures. For external factors, there is tension in the Middle East and additional trade negotiations and unilateral tariffs by the US on trading partners, while for domestic factors, follow political uncertainty and the conflict with Cambodia. However, we believe the SET at below 1100 or a 2025F PER of below 12x, is still an attractive point for medium- to long-term investors to accumulate-buy. Our investment strategy remains "Selective Buy".

Trading today

The SET is expected to continue to fluctuate as it faces external and domestic pressure: the Middle East, Trump’s trade war, local politics and the stimulus package. Our investment strategy is for "selective buy" in three main themes and one trading theme with specific positives:
1. Defensive stocks that fluctuate little and whose profit is expected to be able to withstand external pressure – DIF, BDMS and BCH.
2. High-quality dividend stocks (SET50 with SETESG Rating A or higher) to generate portfolio cash flow in the short term, expected to pay an interim dividend off 1H25 profit with yield higher than 2% - ADVANC, BBL and PTT.
3. Earnings plays whose profit is growing, with 2Q25 core profit expected to grow YoY and QoQ – ADVANC, CPALL and BTG.
4. Trading idea: For high-risk-takers who want to speculate on the Middle East tension, choose stocks that benefit from higher oil price – PTT and PTTEP.

Daily top picks

ERW: Its price has a catalyst from the tourism stimulus program, especially since it is expected to benefit most from greater domestic and Chinese tourists, with 28% of revenue from Thai tourists and 10% from Chinese. In 2H25, profit is expected to recover and it continues to target high 23% growth for its budget hotel, HOP INN, underwritten by continuous expansion.

CPALL: Its price has short-term catalyst as it follows overall market recovery. 2Q25 profit is expected to grow YoY, and 2025 growth is expected to outperform peers at 19% (peers at 5%). The stock is trading at a 2025F PER of 16x (peers at 17x), while its share repurchase program (no higher than 1.67% of total shares) running from May 16 to Nov 14, 2025, limits downside.
