Watch border, election day

The market is expected to move sideways or consolidate. The Thailand-Cambodia border situation remains tense, and the ECT is expected to announce the date of the election tomorrow after a meeting. Watch the BoT’s MPC meeting on Wednesday: the market expects a rate cut. The BoJ also meets and is expected to raise rates, which may trigger some selling pressure on risk assets. Support is at 1250. If it falls below this, next supports are at 1243/1230. Resistances are at 1263/1270.

Today’s highlights
•

  • Today, the Deputy PM and the ECT will discuss the date of the election, which is required to be 45-60 days after the dissolution of Parliament. Also watch to see if economic stimulus will be approved.
  • The Royal Thai Navy said there is no order to "close the Gulf of Thailand," clarifying this is merely a proposal for the National Security Council to consider. Three measures were discussed today: suspending oil and strategic supply exports to Cambodia, increasing vessel monitoring and surveillance, and declaring a risk zone around Cambodian ports to warn shipping traffic. Closing territorial waters was not discussed.
  • The PM confirmed the caretaker government has full authority to guide the country ahead of the elections and formation of a new Cabinet, expected to take a month after the election.
  • The government spokesperson said the government has received clear signals from USTR regarding readiness to move forward with trade negotiations with Thailand, despite the situation along the Thai-Cambodia border. The discussion will prioritize mutual benefits between the two nations and will propose separating trade issues from security concerns.
  • China's NDRC says China will proceed with diverse measures to stimulate investment in 2026, covering the use of state investment funds, expanding the scale of the central budget investment, and deploying new financial instruments.
  • South Korea reported ICT product exports in Nov 2025 at US$25.5bn (+24.3%YoY) to reach an all-time high, driven by growing chip demand (+38.6%), particularly DDR5 memory and HBM, which are used in chipsets for Generative AI.

Strategy today

In the short term, the SET is expected to move between 1250-1320 while waiting for a new driver. Of interest this week are: the FOMC meeting (Dec 11), where interest rate is expected to be cut by 25bps to 3.75% and the dot plot, which will indicate the direction of interest rate and the economy next year, risky asset markets including Thailand. At home, keep an eye on the Ministry of Finance’s proposal of an individual savings account (ISA) for tax reduction instead of LTFs and a Bt800,000 maximum personal income tax allowance. Follow the details to assess the impact of both measures on fund flows into the capital market. Our investment strategy is "Selective Buy".

Trading today

In the short term the SET is expected to move sideways, waiting for the FOMC meeting and the Cabinet consideration of the ISA and tax allowance ceiling. Our investment strategy is "selective buy" in three main and three trading themes:

  1. Defensive stocks whose profit can withstand external uncertainties, with 4Q25 earnings expected to continue growing YoY and on which we recommend Outperform – ADVANC, BDMS, BEM, BGRIM, GULF and PTT.
  2. High quality dividend stocks which are categorized into: 1) long-term dividend stocks with stable profit, low volatility, strong balance sheets, high dividend yield of above 5% - AP, DIF, KTB, PTT and TISCO; and 2) short-term (6 months) dividend stocks with dividend yield after interim dividend still above 5% - BAM, KBANK, SAT, THANI and TLI.
  3. Stocks that benefit from the interest rate downcycle as we expect the MPC to cut interest rate once more this year and twice next year: companies that benefit from lower financial cost as they carry a high proportion of floating-rate debt (CENTEL, GPSC, TRUE) and those whose operating costs are reduced and/or that benefit from higher purchasing power (AP and MTC), and REITs (DIF, FTREIT and LHHOTEL).
  4. Trading idea: For high-risk-takers who want to speculate: 1) stocks expected to benefit from government measures: the BoI Fast Pass (WHA, AMATA), the 6-month trial period for the extension of the hours for sale of alcohol (CPALL, BJC) and lifting the SSO fund contribution (BCH and CHG); 2) shipping stocks expected to benefit from higher Capesize demand in China due to shipments of iron ore from Guinea, raising the BDI (PSL, TTA); and 3) stocks expected to be selected to be calculated in the SET50 in 1H26, to be announced by mid-Dec (SAWAD, ITC).

Strategy today

In the short term, the SET is expected to move sideways with a downward bias due to concerns over Thailand's political vacuum, with a potential test of the previous support level around 1230 and an upside cap at 1285. Key factors to monitor include: central bank policy meetings - BoJ (market expects a 25bps rate hike to 0.75%), ECB and BoE (market expects rates to remain unchanged), and BoT (market expects a 25bps rate cut to 1.25%), as well as key US economic data including November inflation, October PCE, and November employment figures. Domestically, keep an eye on the announcement of the date of the election and the formation of a new government following the dissolution of Parliament. Our investment strategy is "Selective Buy".

Daily Top Picks

CPALL: Catalysts from money flowing into the economy during the election campaign. Expected to be the only operator in the retail group with profit growth YoY in 4Q25 from strong CVS sales and wider CVS margin, and benefit from extended alcohol sales hours starting this month. Short-term TP is Bt44.50.

TRUE: A catalyst from expectations of good profit. Revenue from the mobile phone business bottomed in 3Q25, with net gains in new users in 4Q25. There is also support from lower expensed after the spectrum auction. Short-term TP is Bt11.50.
