Daily Top Picks
Volatile with issues to follow this week
The SET is expected to be volatile, driven by multiple investment headwinds. Key factors include escalating US-Iran tensions alongside 2Q26 earnings releases from the banking sector today and tomorrow, followed by major real sector heavyweights like SCC and DELTA mid- to late-week. Investors must also monitor US tariff negotiations under Section 301 as the 10% tariff rate under Section 122 expires on July 24. Technically, the index rebounded but failed to clear its previous high; without a breakout, a brief near-term pullback may follow. Supports are at 1250/1244, resistances at 1265/1270.
Today's highlights
• Brent crude rose to US$90.76/bbl as escalating US-Iran tensions fueled global supply fears and inflation risks, raising prospects of prolonged central bank monetary tightening. This remains negative for risk assets and anti-oil plays, but positive for upstream energy (PTTEP) and refiners (BCP, TOP, SPRC).
• The PM discussed investment plans exceeding Bt70bn this year with four Chinese tech giants (Xiaomi, Changan Automobile, InnoLight Technology, and Eoptolink Technology). The projects focus on precision technology, data centers, semiconductors, and EVs, boosting industrial estates (WHA, AMATA), automotive (AH, SAT, STANLY), and electronics (KCE, HANA, DELTA).
• The OFFO raised diesel subsidies to Bt7.39/litre and B20 to Bt12.11/litre to curb living costs amid Middle East tensions. This directly squeezes marketing margins, acting as a short-term negative for oil retailers (PTG, OR).
• The Minister of Commerce held bilateral trade talks with the US regarding the Reciprocal Trade Agreement (ART) and the Section 301 investigation. Thailand aims to ease trade pressures by increasing US imports and investments, neutral for food exporters (TU, ITC) and electronics (KCE, HANA, DELTA).
• The Ministry of Transport approved a Bt12bn public-private partnership (PPP) cruise terminal project on Samui Island, targeting up to 400,000 tourists annually. This enhances long-term touris
Strategy today
In the near term, we see the SET as likely to pause and consolidate. While the market draws support from easing concerns over tighter monetary policy at major central banks following softer-than-expected global June inflation readings, along with Thailand's proactive fiscal policy and 2Q26 earnings season speculation, a number of overhangs remain to be monitored — including prolonged geopolitical risks that continue to fuel supply shortage concerns, global technology sector volatility, and US tariff negotiations under Section 301 ahead of the existing 10% Section 122 tariff rate expiring on Jul 24. The investment strategy is therefore "Selective Buy".
Trading today
We view the SET as likely to pause and consolidate. While the market draws support from easing global inflation, Thailand's proactive fiscal policy, and 2Q26 earnings speculation, headwinds remain from geopolitical risks, global technology sector volatility, and US tariff negotiations (Section 301) ahead of the existing measures expiring on Jul 24. Our investment strategy is therefore "Selective Buy" across 3 core themes and 4 trading ideas as follows:
Trading ideas: 1) Geopolitical plays — Stocks benefiting from the renewed flare-up of Middle East tensions: upstream energy (PTTEP) and refiners (TOP, SPRC, BCP); focus on buying on dips with strict stop-loss discipline. 2) Earnings plays — Stocks expected to report solid YoY and QoQ earnings growth in 2Q26 over the next two weeks, with strong financial positions. Our Outperform picks are: SCGP, HMPRO. 3) Laggard plays — Stocks whose share prices have underperformed the SET on a YTD basis; focus on big-cap names expected to benefit from sector rotation and with strong fundamentals: TU, MINT, HMPRO, BDMS, MTC, CPALL. 4) Export plays — Stocks expected to gain positive momentum if new US tariff rates do not exceed the prior peak of 19%: TU, ITC, DELTA, HANA, KCE.
Daily Top Picks
PTTEP: Short-term catalyst from continuous Middle East tensions and crude oil prices rising close to US$90/bbl. 2Q26 net profit is expected to double QoQ, driven by higher sales volume and prices amid wartime demand alongside hedging gains. Short-term TP is Bt147.50.
WHA: Short-term catalyst from four Chinese tech firms announcing Bt70bn in investments within this year. Land sales this year are expected to meet the target of 2,500 rai, while other businesses like logistics and utilities should see continuous growth. 2026 net profit is projected to hit a record high of Bt5.5bn, growing 7.7%. Short-term TP is Bt5.65.
