2Q26F: Record quarterly profit expected
We expect PTT to post a record-high 2Q26F net profit of Bt49bn (results due August 13), supported by strong contributions from its gas and E&P businesses amid higher oil prices and concerns over Middle East supply disruptions. Earnings will also be boosted by oil hedging gains, reversing losses in 1Q26. While 3Q26F core profit may soften QoQ due to lower E&P sales volumes and weaker oil prices, PTT’s integrated business model should help cushion the impact. We maintain OUTPERFORM with a SOTP-based TP of Bt43. Valuation remains attractive at 0.9x 2026F PBV, while the dividend yield exceeds 6%.
Profit from the gas and E&P businesses to drive QoQ earnings growth. We expect the gas business to deliver solid operating performance in 2Q26F, supported by stronger power-sector demand, higher gas nominations to gas separation plants, and continued efforts to strengthen energy security amid geopolitical uncertainty. Gas sales volume is projected to increase to 5% QoQ to 4,220 MMSCFD, while gas separation plant utilization should improve to 97.1%, with product sales reaching 1.89mn tons. In addition, PTTEP’s record 2Q26 earnings, driven by all-time-high sales volume and a higher ASP, should provide a significant boost to PTT’s overall profitability.
Lower profit from the P&R segment expected. Profit contribution from P&R associates is expected to weaken QoQ despite supportive GRM and petrochemical spreads. The decline is mainly attributable to realized and unrealized inventory losses, partly offset by a reversal of hedging losses recognized in 1Q26. We expect the oil business to post a loss in 2Q26 due to softer demand, weaker marketing margins, and substantial inventory losses following the sharp decline in oil prices. Oil sales volume is projected to fall 15% QoQ after panic buying linked to the Iran conflict in late 1Q26 and early 2Q26.
3Q26F outlook: E&P to lead the earnings decline QoQ. We expect PTT’s core profit to ease QoQ in 3Q26F, primarily due to lower E&P earnings resulting from maintenance shutdowns deferred from 1H26 to 3Q26, mainly at producing assets in the Gulf of Thailand. However, E&P ASP should remain favorable, supported by a 4% QoQ increase in gas prices, which account for 74-75% of total sales volume. The decline should be partly offset by an improvement in the oil retail business as inventory loss impacts diminish and domestic demand normalizes. Favorable middle-distillate GRM should continue to support refining earnings, although inventory loss risk remains.
Maintain TP of Bt43 based on SOTP. PTT continues to offer an attractive risk-reward profile, trading at just 0.9x 2026F PBV, well below its 10-year average of 1.2x. We believe the current valuation does not fully reflect the strength and diversification of its asset portfolio. Shareholder returns remain compelling, with a dividend yield above 6%, supported by robust cash flow generation and a strong balance sheet. PTT has also demonstrated a consistent dividend payment record across commodity cycles. We maintain our OUTPERFORM rating and SOTP-based TP of Bt43.
Key risks: Economic slowdown, oil price volatility, asset impairment, regulatory changes, and government intervention in retail oil pricing. ESG risks include environmental impact and transition to clean energy.
