Energy Platform as a Service (EPaaS)

2Q26: Core profit inline; Long-term positive

BGRIM reported 2Q26 core profit of Bt568mn, in line with our estimates. 2Q26 core earnings were up 20% YoY and 12% QoQ, driven by higher electricity sales volumes and lower tax expenses. Earnings in 3Q26 are expected to soften YoY and QoQ due to a peak in gas costs, but this is expected to be a short-term hiccup before a recovery in 4Q26. We maintain OUTPERFORM, as the medium to long term is supported by several new opportunities, including PDP2026, Direct PPA, and data centers. Our mid-2027 TP is Bt23 (raised from Bt21), based on a DCF valuation (WACC: 6.3%, LT growth: 1.5%).

2Q26 core up YoY and QoQ. BGRIM reported a net profit of Bt676mn in 2Q26, which was 9% above our estimate and 17% above consensus due to higher-than-expected foreign exchange gains. Core profit came in line with our expectation at Bt568mn, rising 20% YoY and 12% QoQ, driven by higher electricity sales volumes, especially to EGAT (+2% YoY and +8% QoQ) and IUs (+4% YoY and +1% QoQ), as well as lower tax expenses.

3Q26 earnings are expected to soften both YoY and QoQ. We expect core earnings to softening both YoY and QoQ in 3Q26 due to rising pool gas costs of Bt380-390/mmBTU (+23% YoY and +6% QoQ) following an increase in global LNG prices. However, this should be partially offset by: 1) higher gas-linked contracts (<50% of IU customers) to minimize the impact of higher gas costs, 2) 30-40MW of new IU customers connecting to BGRIM's system in 2H26, 3) a higher profit from the Nakwol 1 project (365MW, 49% interest), which reaches full COD in 4Q26, and 4) the Huong Hoa 1 onshore wind farm in Vietnam (48MW, 80% interest), which is expected to achieve COD in 4Q26.

Takeaways from meeting. Management maintained its SPP gas cost guidance at Bt330-350/mmBTU for 2026, amid higher LNG prices driven by the US-Iran conflict, while BGRIM is currently negotiating a new gas-linked tariff formula with new and existing IU customers. Construction of Data Center Building 1 (48MW) is 40% complete, with gradual startup expected in 1Q27. Building 2 (48MW) is 6% complete, with COD expected to begin in 3Q27.

New opportunities. We expect several upcoming growth opportunities, including: 1) PDP 2026's focus on community solar, and renewable energy projects, as well as studying small modular reactor (SMR) with partners for long-term, 3) Direct PPAs, where BGRIM currently holds a 100MW PPA with NTT, has secured new partners for around 150MW, and maintains a potential pipeline exceeding 1,000MW, and 4) collaboration on digital infrastructure and Energy Platform as a Service (EPaaS) as an aggregator to manage and transmit excess green energy between users and producers across more than 130 industrial estates nationwide, generating new high-margin revenue streams such as platform and software subscription fees.

Valuation/recommendation. We maintain our OUTPERFORM rating with a new mid-2027 TP of Bt23 (raised from Bt21), based on DCF valuation (WACC: 6.3%, terminal growth: 1.5%). This is backed by a positive medium- to long-term outlook and supported by several new opportunities, including PDP2026, Direct PPA, and the data centers.

Key risks. Higher gas cost and adjustment of Ft rate to catch up with fuel cost. Key ESG risks are the environmental impact from its exposure to fossil fuels, energy management, high greenhouse gas emission, and nearby community impact.
