2Q26: In line with market; Below INVX estimates
2Q26 core profit was Bt725mn, -73% YoY and -24% QoQ, in line with market but below our estimate from weak margin. We cut our 2026F earnings by 15% to reflect weak livestock prices in 2Q26, while leaving 2027F unchanged. With livestock prices recovering in 3Q26TD and tighter swine and broiler supply expected through 1H27 and 2H26 based on BTG’s view, alongside manageable feed costs supported by the local harvest season and US corn imports, we expect earnings to improve QoQ in 3Q26F, though remaining flat to down YoY, before returning to both QoQ and YoY growth in 4Q26F. We upgrade BTG to Outperform from Neutral with a new mid-2027 SOTP TP of Bt25 (from Bt21.5 at end-2026), based on 9-11x PE for its feed, farm and food units.
2Q26 net profit was Bt598mn, -77% YoY and -40% QoQ, in line with market consensus but below our estimate due to weak gross margin. Excluding a one-off expense (mainly on impairment expense of prepaid tax in Cambodia of Bt149mn), its 2Q26 core profit was Bt725mn, -73% YoY and -24% QoQ. The earnings decline was hit by lower local swine and livestock prices, which pressured both sales and margins.
Key takeaway from meeting. Local pork prices have recovered from this year’s low of Bt62/kg in June to Bt64/kg in July (+5% MoM, -16% YoY), Bt69/kg in Aug to date (+8% MoM, flat YoY) and Bt72/kg currently. In 3Q26TD, average pork prices were Bt67/kg (+5% QoQ, -3% YoY), backed by tighter supply following the easing ASF situation and industry-wide breeder stock supply controls. BTG expects prices to continue improving from 3Q26 and remain at favorable levels through mid-2027, supported by manageable industry supply, with Thailand’s 2026 hog population now estimated at 20mn heads, down from 21mn heads at the beginning of the year. Local chicken prices have recovered from this year’s low of Bt36/kg in June to Bt42/kg in July (+17% MoM, +2% YoY) and Bt44/kg in Aug to date (+5% MoM, +9% YoY). In 3Q26TD, average chicken prices were Bt43/kg (+11% QoQ, +8% YoY), driven by the impact of a new Newcastle disease strain that prompted industry-wide breeder culling in 2Q26 and is expected to tighten supply in 2H26. BTG’s broiler farms returned to normal production in August after operational disruptions in 2Q26, while export demand and prices, particularly in Europe and Japan, continue to improve through end-2026.
Feed cost. Local corn prices peaked at Bt13/kg in June before easing to Bt12.5/kg in July (-5% MoM, +11% YoY) and Bt10.5/kg in Aug to date (-16% MoM, +6% YoY), with BTG expecting further declines as Thailand’s harvest season starting in August to late this year boosts supply. Imported soybean meal prices remained relatively stable at Bt16/kg six months in row until August to date (+7% YoY) but are expected to stay elevated due to higher transportation costs. Despite this, BTG estimates that actual feed costs will rise by 1.5% in 2H26, supported by effective procurement and inventory management, including purchasing feed ingredients below spot prices and avoiding excessive price spikes. US corn imports. Imports under Thailand’s 1mn tons US corn quota for 2026 are expected to begin in October, with industry participants planning to import 3-4 vessels. BTG will join the first shipment with one vessel (20,000-30,000 tons), with imported corn expected to cost around Bt9.8/kg, below domestic prices. The initial shipment will be used to evaluate raw material quality before further import commitments. As domestic corn prices are expected to soften after the harvest season, BTG will reassess market conditions before deciding on additional imports. M&A. BTG is studying M&A in the Philippines and expects more progress by late 2026. It is targeting brownfield businesses across the pork value chain, from farming to processed food, leveraging its strengths in farm management and production technology.
Key risks are lower demand and prices from fragile economies and more supply, and higher feed costs. Key ESG risks are GHG emission, waste & water management (E), customer welfare, product quality management, health & safety policies (S).
