By ศิริมา ดิสสรา, IAA, CFA|14 Aug 26 8:07 AM

2Q26: In-line with estimates

2Q26 core profit was Bt7.4bn (+6% YoY, -17% QoQ), in line with estimates, driven by stronger CVS sales and margins that more than offset weaker earnings contribution from CPAXT. In 3Q26TD, CVS SSS grew 1% YoY, outperforming peers that continued to report SSS contraction amid fragile purchasing power and the impact of the Thai Help Thai Plus program. We expect its 3Q26 earnings to grow YoY on improving CVS sales and margins, but decline QoQ due to normal seasonality. We maintain Outperform with a mid-2027 DCF TP of Bt65 (WACC 7.3%, LTG 1.5%).

2Q26 net profit was Bt7.5bn, +11% YoY but -18% QoQ. Excluding a one-off FX gain of Bt113mn, 2Q26 core profit was Bt7.4bn, +6% YoY but -17% QoQ, in line with estimates. Of its 2Q26 earnings growth of 6% YoY, 9% came from CVS on stronger sales and margins, offsetting a weaker earnings contribution from CPAXT, whose earnings were hit by weaker gross margin and higher SG&A/sales (-18% YoY; CPALL holds a 60% stake).

2Q26 CVS highlights: SSS rose 0.8% YoY. SSS grew 1% YoY in April-May, supported by hot weather, stronger Chinese tourist arrivals and extended alcohol sales hours, before slowing to flat YoY in June due to the temporary impact of the Thai Help Thai Plus program in early June, with improvement toward month-end. O2O sales accounted for 11% of total sales, flat YoY and QoQ. Food products represented 77.5% of total sales (+90bps YoY), driven by stronger demand for RTE meals (meal boxes, chilled meals and salads), RTD and beverage products (All Café, All Select, protein shakes, yogurt drinks, carbonated soft drinks, clear tea and coconut water), while non-food products contributed 22.5%. In 2Q26, CPALL added 200 stores in Thailand, bringing its total to 16,284 stores at end-2Q26 (+4% YoY, +1% QoQ). Overseas, it added two stores in Laos but closed 24 stores in Cambodia, resulting in a net 71 stores overseas (-50% YoY, -24% QoQ), comprising 39 stores in Cambodia and 32 stores in Laos. Gross margin in the CVS business was flat YoY, as higher logistics costs at distribution centers due to rising oil prices were offset by an improvement in product mix margin to 28% (+20bps YoY), supported by higher food product margin (+30bps YoY on a greater mix of high-margin RTE and RTD products, as well as higher-margin alcoholic beverage sales driven by changing consumer lifestyles) and a slight increase in non-food product margin (+20bps YoY from higher sales of high-margin personal care products, including skincare, haircare and cosmetics). SG&A rose 4.5% YoY, slower than CVS sales growth of 5%, reflecting higher store expansion expenses, while electricity costs remained under control through in-store energy-saving initiatives.

2Q26 CPAXT highlights. 2Q26 core profit was Bt1.87bn, -18% YoY and -30% QoQ. The earnings decline was mainly driven by 1) lower gross margin (-20bps YoY) from a higher sales mix of dry food products, price investments to support consumer affordability and higher logistics costs, and 2) higher SG&A/sales from increased personnel expenses to support O2O expansion, pre-operating expenses related to Habitat and higher logistics costs. These factors more than offset a slight sales increase (+2% YoY) driven by store expansion and consolidation of revenue from the Lucky Frozen acquisition, despite weaker SSS (-0.9% YoY for B2B due to weak overseas operations and -3.9% YoY for B2C due to the adverse impact of the Thai Help Thai Plus program and fragile consumer spending).

Key risks are changes in government policies and purchasing power. Key ESG risks are energy & waste management, sustainable products (E) and product quality management, labor practices and data privacy (S).
