2Q26: In line with estimates
2Q26 core profit was Bt582mn, -12% YoY but +20% QoQ, in line with estimates. Supported by a recovery in local broiler prices from this year’s low in June, with 3Q26TD prices rising 8% YoY and 11% QoQ on stronger domestic and export demand, particularly from Japan, alongside tighter supply and manageable feed costs, we raise our 2026F earnings forecast by 5%. We expect earnings to improve QoQ in 3Q26F, though remaining flat to down YoY, before returning to YoY growth in 4Q26F. We upgrade GFPT to Outperform from Neutral with a new mid-2027 SOTP TP of Bt12 (vs Bt10 at end-2026), based on 6-8x PE for its feed, farm and food businesses.
2Q26 net profit at Bt601mn, -7% YoY but +16% QoQ. Excluding a one-off FX gain of Bt19mn, 2Q26 core profit was Bt582mn, -12% YoY but +20% QoQ, in line with estimates. The YoY decline was mainly due to lower equity income and weaker export sales volumes, which more than offset an improvement in gross margin.
2Q26 highlights. Sales fell 5% YoY, led by the food unit (-5% YoY) on lower direct export sales and indirect export sales to McKey, while feed & farm sales fell 4% YoY. For the food unit, direct export volume was 8,100 tons (-5% YoY), as weaker sales to Malaysia and China outpaced stronger sales to Japan and stable demand from Europe. Industry export prices to Japan and Europe were US$4,700/ton (-2% YoY, +4% QoQ) and US$4,400/ton (flat YoY and QoQ). Local chicken rib byproduct prices fell to Bt10.5/kg (-29% YoY, -19% QoQ). Gross margin widened 20bps YoY to 16.9%, supported by lower feedstock costs. Equity income fell 31% YoY, mainly due to weaker contributions from McKey (-3% YoY, with FX losses offsetting better export volumes) and GFN (-94% YoY, on lower local byproduct prices and the absence of exports to China).
Key takeaways from meeting. Feed costs. Local corn prices peaked at Bt13/kg in June before easing to Bt12.5/kg in July (-5% MoM, +11% YoY) and Bt10.5/kg in Aug to date (-16% MoM, +6% YoY) on higher seasonal supply. Imported soybean meal prices remained stable at Bt16/kg from March to August-to-date (+7% YoY). GFPT expects its actual feed costs in 3Q26F to remain manageable, supported by gradual procurement and avoiding purchases during periods of unusually high feed prices, while lower-cost US corn imports in late 2026 could provide additional savings. Local chicken prices revived from Bt36/kg in June to Bt42/kg in July and Bt44/kg in Aug to date. In 3Q26TD, average broiler and chicken rib byproduct prices rose to Bt43/kg (+11% QoQ, +8% YoY, vs. breakeven cost of Bt39/kg) and Bt12.5/kg (+21% QoQ, +6% YoY), backed by better local and export demand, and tighter supply from the impact of a new Newcastle disease strain that prompted industry-wide breeder culling in 2Q26. GFPT expects chicken prices to be healthy in 2H26 amid balanced demand & supply. Export. Based on advance orders, GFPT expects direct export sales volume to reach 8,500 tons in 3Q26F (+5% QoQ, +8% YoY), from stronger demand from Japan from weaker baht and low inventory levels. Orders from Europe remain normal, while exports to China are still absent. GFPT expects export prices in Europe to remain stable, while prices in Japan may increase 2-3% QoQ. Equity income. McKey’s earnings are set to remain strong on higher export volumes, while GFN's earnings should improve on better local by-product prices. New capacity. GFPT plans to double slaughtering capacity by 150,000 chickens/day in late 2026, with trial runs in 1Q27 and commercial operations in 2Q27. Supported by order transfers from existing facilities, higher sales to McKey and additional direct raw chicken exports, it expects utilization to ramp up from 30-40% initially to the breakeven level of 60-70% within six months of commercial startup.
Key risks are changes in feed costs and government policies, higher swine supply (substitute protein). Key ESG risks are energy, waste & water management, sustainable products (E), health & safety policies for customers and labor (S).
