2Q26: Beat estimates on solid gross margin

2Q26 net profit was Bt955mn (+84% YoY, +19% QoQ), beating estimates on a stronger-than-expected gross margin. We raise our 2026F earnings by 8%, as wider gross margin more than offsets weaker SSS. While July SSS remained weak at -5% YoY amid soft steel demand and lower steel prices, we believe downside to SSS from current levels should be limited as steel prices have fallen below pre-war levels. We expect 2H26F earnings to grow YoY, backed by further gross margin expansion, manageable SG&A/sales and three new store openings despite weak SSS. We maintain Outperform with a new mid-2027 DCF-based TP of Bt9.5 (from Bt9.0 at end-2026).

2Q26 net profit was Bt955mn (+84% YoY, +19% QoQ), beating estimates by 25-30% on a stronger-than-expected gross margin. The YoY jump was supported by gross margin expansion, lower interest expenses and higher equity income despite flat sales, while the QoQ rise was driven by wider gross margin despite seasonally softer sales.

2Q26 sales. Revenue was flat YoY, as store expansion offset a 4% YoY drop in SSS. SSS grew at about 1% YoY in April, backed by higher construction material prices, stockpiling demand and hot weather, but weakened to -6% to -7% YoY in May-June as falling steel prices prompted customers to delay purchases. GLOBAL opened a new store in 2Q26, bringing its total store count to 100 stores at end-2Q26 (+6% YoY, +1% QoQ).

2Q26 other items. Gross margin widened to 31.6% (+620bps YoY, +500bps QoQ), driven by: 1) a 100bps QoQ increase in steel gross margin from a normal level of 10-11% to the high-teens; 2) a 150bps QoQ uplift from higher selling prices for general merchandise and private-label products following market price adjustments; and 3) a 250bps QoQ benefit from low-cost inventory accumulated previously (stocks at 6-7 months on average). June gross margin was above 27% (vs 26.6% in 1Q26) despite steel prices normalizing to pre-war levels. Private-label products accounted for 27.5% of sales in 2Q26, up from 24.0% in 2Q25 and unchanged from 27.5% in 1Q26. SG&A/sales rose 60bps YoY to 20.7%, from store expansion expenses, while the impact of higher diesel prices remained limited as most cost increases were passed through. Interest expense fell 50% YoY to Bt30mn following short-term debt repayment funded by stronger operating cash flow in 1Q26 and a lower interest-rate environment. Equity income jumped 127% YoY to Bt105mn, driven mainly by stronger contributions from Myanmar on higher sales volumes, the removal of product price controls by government seen in 2025 and wider margins, and modestly higher earnings from Laos and Indonesia.

Earnings raised; 2H26F earnings to grow YoY. We raise our 2026F earnings by 8%, as a wider gross margin assumption of 28.3% (vs 27.3% previously) more than offsets a weaker SSS assumption of -4.2% YoY (vs -3.1% YoY previously). July SSS fell 5% YoY (vs -6% to -7% YoY in May-June), as sales remained pressured by weak steel demand and lower steel prices (rebar prices fell by a low-single-digit MoM and structural steel prices by a double-digit MoM). With steel prices now below pre-war levels, we believe further SSS deterioration should be limited, though fragile purchasing power is likely to limit any meaningful recovery. We continue to expect 2H26F earnings growth YoY, supported by further gross margin expansion (in line with the company’s 2H26 gross margin target of 27-28%, implying >100bps YoY improvement), manageable SG&A/sales and three new store openings, despite our conservative assumption of negative SSS.

Key risks are changes in purchasing power, in steel prices and farm income and new government policies. Key ESG risks are energy & waste management, sustainable products (E) and product quality management, labor practices and data privacy (S).
