IAA|7 Aug 26 7:21 AM

2Q26: Weak quarter; missed estimates

OR posted a net loss of Bt1.8bn in 2Q26, reversing from profits of Bt2.4bn in 1Q26 and Bt2.2bn in 2Q25, and missing market expectations. Higher revenue from rising oil prices was more than offset by lower sales volumes, weaker margins, and an NRV loss as oil prices fell late in the quarter. We expect earnings to return to profit in 3Q26 but cut our 2026F net profit forecast by 11% after weak 1H26 results. We maintain our OUTPERFORM rating and Bt16 TP, as recent share price weakness largely reflects near-term risks. We believe the worst quarter is behind us, while record Café Amazon sales and EBITDA margins above 30% should continue supporting earnings resilience.

Mobility segment weighed on earnings. The Mobility business, OR’s core segment, was the main drag on earnings. EBITDA swung to a loss of Bt1.25bn from a profit of Bt4.74bn in the previous quarter as sales volume fell 16.2% QoQ to 5.6bn liters, while adjusted gross profit declined to Bt0.49/liter from Bt0.74/liter in 1Q26. Retail oil margins weakened significantly amid intense competition and softer demand caused by elevated energy prices. Earnings were further impacted by a stock loss of Bt8.9bn and an accounting loss on net realizable value of Bt2.4bn.

Global segment continued to face pressure. EBITDA turned to a loss of Bt512mn from a profit of Bt436mn in 1Q26, mainly due to lower sales in the Philippines, Laos, and Cambodia, as well as inventory losses. Meanwhile, the Thailand-Cambodia situation continued to significantly affect operations in Cambodia, leading to the closure of additional service stations and Café Amazon outlets. OR is evaluating strategic alternatives, including bringing in a partner or exiting the market. Total exposure in Cambodia is around US$85mn, including ~US$15.5mn in land assets.

Lifestyle remained the company's key strength. Revenue from the segment increased 2.3% YoY and 2.8% QoQ, while EBITDA remained stable at nearly Bt2bn despite higher marketing expenses. Café Amazon achieved a record-high sales volume of 117mn cups, up 9.3% YoY and 4.5% QoQ, supported by branch expansion and promotional activities. This highlights the strength of OR’s non-oil business, which partially offsets earnings volatility from the oil business. The segment’s EBITDA margin was strong at 30.8%, compared with the 5-year average of 25.7%.

Earnings turnaround expected for 3Q26F. We expect earnings to return to positive territory in 3Q26F as inventory-related losses reverse, retail demand remains healthy, Café Amazon sales stay above 100mn cups, and fuel marketing margins improve to Bt0.8-1.0/liter. However, global operations are likely to remain under pressure from operational and competitive challenges.

Slight earnings forecast cut for 2026F. We lower our profit target for 2026F by 11% after reducing gross profit/liter assumption from Bt0.85 to 0.80. Our TP of Bt16 is unchanged, rolling to mid-2027, based on 7.5x EV/EBITDA (-1SD). While earnings momentum is likely to remain soft in the near term, we maintain OUTPERFORM as we believe the recent share price correction has largely priced in these headwinds. We continue to see valuation support from OR's resilient lifestyle business should help offset cyclical weakness in mobility and overseas operations.

Risk factors: An economic slowdown could weaken demand for OR’s oil and non-oil products, while oil price volatility may cause inventory losses. Other risks are  diesel price caps, tough competition, and rising costs that are not fully passed on.
