2Q26: Beat our and consensus estimates
SCC posted a 2Q26 core profit that beat our estimate and consensus, increasing both QoQ and YoY. This was driven by a turnaround in the chemical business due to wider HDPE/PP spreads, premium pricing from HVA products, and a one-month inventory of chemical products. We have revised up our 2026-2027 core profit forecasts by 20% and 9%, respectively, and rolled over to a mid-2027 TP of Bt276 (from Bt268) based on SOTP (7x EV/EBITDA for chemical, 8X for packaging, and cement, and 1.7x PBV for associates). We maintain NEUTRAL as we expect core earnings to normalize in 2H26.
2Q26 core profit increased both QoQ and YoY. SCC reported 2Q26 net profit of Bt11.5bn, beating our estimate and consensus of around Bt8bn. This was driven by better-than-expected chemical business performance, as the company raised selling prices for HVA products due to clients stockpiling inventory amid an uncertain situation. Core earnings grew 250% YoY and 500% QoQ, supported by stronger earnings performance from the chemical, cement, and packaging businesses, which increased selling prices to offset their higher costs. The chemical business’ core profit reached Bt3.7bn in 2Q26, turning around from an operating loss of Bt2.3bn in 2Q25 and a loss of Bt3.1bn in 1Q26, led by: 1) a stronger HDPE spread of US$525/t (+45% YoY and +62% QoQ) and PP spread of US$437/t (+24% YoY and +53% QoQ) driven by tightening market conditions (strong demand and tight supply), 2) SCC's strong positioning with a focus on HVA products (60-70% of total sales) that command a premium of US$100-200/t over commodity grades, and 3) SCC holding one month of chemical product inventory.
SCC announced an interim dividend of Bt3.5/share for 1H26 (XD date: 5 August), representing a 24% dividend payout ratio and an annualized dividend yield of 2.7%.
The 2H26 earnings outlook. We expect SCC’s earnings performance to grow YoY due to cost-reduction measures and selling price increases across the chemical, cement, and packaging businesses. However, performance is projected to soften HoH, dragged down by a shrinking HDPE spread—currently down to US$258/t (3Q26QTD average: US$317/t, -24% YoY and -40% QoQ)—and lower sales volume following the planned maintenance shutdown of MOC, a primary petrochemical plant, in late 4Q26. Although SCC plans to restart ROC operations in late 3Q26, this remains uncertain as it depends on raw material procurement, with the company seeking alternative sources outside the Strait of Hormuz. Regarding the LSP petrochemical plant in Vietnam, the company is considering suspending operations until next year to restart concurrently with the completion of the Ethane project in 2H27.
Revisit our earnings forecasts. We revised up our 2026-27 core earnings forecasts by 20% and 9%, respectively, to reflect better-than-expected chemical business performance, mostly driven by short-term benefits from tightening market conditions, better-than-expected cement operations, and our recent upgrade of SCGP’s 2026-27 core earnings by 15%.
Action & recommendation. We maintain our NEUTRAL rating for SCC despite strong 2Q26 core earnings, as we expect short-term windfalls to fade and core earnings to normalize in 2H26. We have rolled over our target price to mid-2027 at Bt276 (from Bt268), based on SOTP (7x EV/EBITDA for chemical, 8x EV/EBTIDA for packaging, and cement, and 1.7x PBV for associates).
Key risks. Higher raw material costs, higher interest rate, exchange rate volatility and oversupply in the cement and chemical businesses.
